Twitch.tv Hacked, Passwords And Stream Keys Reset

You'll need to think of a new password for your Twitch account, assuming you have one. That's because the streaming service noticed some unusual activity and determined that "there may have been unauthorized access to some Twitch user account information." Twitch reacted to the security breach by resetting user passwords.

"For your protection, we have expired passwords and stream keys and have disconnected accounts from Twitter and YouTube. As a result, you will be prompted to create a new password the next time you attempt to log into your Twitch account," Twitch stated in a blog post.


Twitch also recommends changing your password for any other website or service where you use the same or similar password, which is always sound advice in these situations. The possible theft of user account information also underscores why it's a good idea to use a unique password for every site or service you log into, or at least the ones you want to keep secure.

Following the mass password reset, some users voiced their frustration at Twitch's stringent requirements for creating a new one, in particular the minimum number of required characters. Having heard the complaints, the Amazon-owned service reduced the number to eight characters.

As to the security breach, Twitch is keeping quiet about the details, including how it happened and how much information might have been compromised.
