Ubisoft Reveals Far Cry 5 PC System Requirements, GTX 1070 Or Better For 4K Gameplay

Far Cry 5

Ubisoft is getting ready to release Far Cry 5 in just a couple of months, and as that day draws the near, the developers decided to share some additional information about the PC version, including what minimum specs you will need to run the game and what is recommended to maintain 60 frames per second. Also of interest is what kind of meaty hardware you will need in order to render the game at 4K, whether it's 60 fps or 30 fps.

Before we get to the minimum and recommended specs, let's talk a little about the game and the focus on PC. Ubisoft is not treating PC players as second-class citizens to their console brethren. To help players get the best experience possible on PC, there is a built-in benchmark feature, along with a video memory usage meter to help analyze system performance and calibriate a "myriad" of visual options.

While having a boatload of dials at your exposure can seem intimidating, Far Cry 5 will auto-detect your hardware and match the visual quality settings and resolution appropriately. In addition, Far Cry 5 will support multi-GPU setups, which Ubisoft says can "significantly improve performance."

As for the specs, here is a look at the minimum requirements:
  • OS: Windows 7 SP2, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.1GHz or AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD R9 270 (2GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Resolution: 720p
  • Video Present: Low
To achieve 60 frames per second at 1080p, you are looking at the recommended configuration:
  • OS: Windows 7 SP2, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-4770 @ 3.4GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.2GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X (4GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Resolution: 1080p
  • Video Present: High
Where things start to get brutish if you want to play Far Cry 5 at 4K. To achieve 30 fps at 4K, you will need the following:
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.4GHz or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X @ 3.6GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD RX Vega 56 (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Resolution: 2160p
  • Video Present: High
And if you want to run the game at 4K at 60 fps, you will need dual graphics cards. Here's a look:
  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-6700K @ 4GHz or AMD Ryzen 7 1700X @ 3.4GHz or equivalent
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 SLI or AMD RX Vega 56 CrossFireX (8GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
  • RAM: 16GB
  • Resolution: 2160p
  • Video Present: High/Ultra
That is some serious horsepower. Unfortunately, the cryptocurrency mining hubbub has caused a shortage of graphics cards in the marketplace, with grossly inflated price tags on practically every mid-range and high-end GPU out there. So, you'll already need to own a beefy GPU (or two) to run Far Cry 5 at 4K, or be willing to pay a huge markup.

Hopefully that will change by the time the game comes out on March 27.
