UE MEGABOOM Bluetooth Speaker Promises 100-Foot Range, 360-Degree Sound
With smartphones and tablets being so commonplace these days, we're all classified as mobile warriors. However, most of the devices lack mojo in one critical area -- speakers. At best, we hope for serviceable sound from speakers integrated into tablet and smartphone devices, which is why we're starting to see more portable speaker options. Towards that end, Logitech's Ultimate Ears division today announced its UE MEGABOOM, a next-generation portable wireless speaker that's supposed to deliver more power, sound, and bass than previous efforts.
Don't fret too much over placement -- the UE MEGABOOM offers 360-degree sound with "heart pounding bass," according to Logitech. It's also waterproof (IPX7 certified) with a stain-resistant acoustic skin, making it a nifty travel companion for camp outs, pool parties, and anywhere else you might be hesitant to bring along a typical mobile speaker.
Logitech says the UE MEGABOOM weighs less than 2 pounds and features a 20-hour rechargeable battery life. It connects to audio sources via Bluetooth and sports a 100-foot wireless range. If one UE MEGABOOM proves not enough, you can kick the party up a notch by pairing a second UE MEGABOOM, or a previous generation UE BOOM, if you happen to have one handy.
Features could expand over time thanks to over-the-air updates, which is pretty unusual in the speaker category. There are also accompanying apps through iOS and Android offering access to things like alarm functionality, fully customizable sound, remote On/Off, and more.
