Uncharted 4 Sales Exceed Record 2.7 Million Units During First Week
"Millions of fans around the world have already joined Nathan Drake on his final treasure hunt. In the first week alone, I’m happy to report that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End exceeded 2.7 million units in global sales. For the North American region, Uncharted 4 is the fastest-selling PS4 first party title to-date," said Asad Qizilbash, Marketing Manager, SCEA.
That figure includes both physical media sales and digital downloads from around world, though Sony didn't say how many of each. Whatever the breakdown, Sony and developer Naughty Dog have to be pleased to see Nathan Drake go out on a high note, especially with the turmoil leading up to launch.
Uncharted 4 wasn't only hit by multiple delays. A couple of weeks prior to launch, an untold number of copies of the much anticipated title were stolen while in transit
"We know that very many of you have been looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the latest masterpiece from Naughty Dog. From what I have played of Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, I can tell you that it is very much worth the wait," Sony President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida stated at the time. "As with most Naughty Dog games, the unfolding story is such an integral part of the experience and for this reason we wanted to warn you to beware of the potential for spoilers to be posted by people with access to stolen copies of the game."
In the end, none of it mattered as Nathan Drake proved too popular for a few delays or potential spoilers to ruin the fun. In addition to skyrocketing to over 2.7 million sales, Uncharted 4 has racked up several positive reviews with Metacritic calculating a score of 93 based on 99 professional reviews.
