USB Mass Storage Support Coming Soon To Xbox 360

Microsoft's Xbox 360 Arcade console is about to get a lot more interesting, and a lot more viable. For most, the idea of buying the cheap(er) console and then buying an expensive Xbox 360 hard drive or 512MB Memory Unit was something that just added up to "too much." But in order to continually battle Sony and Nintendo, they are reportedly planning to enable USB Mass Storage support across the console line.

If you're not much on terminology, this means that your normal USB drive will soon be able to be used as storage for the Xbox 360, and since 16GB USB keys are supported, a couple of them will essentially give you a 32GB hard drive (if you leave them plugged in) for storing DLC content and other media that you want close. If you like your media on the go, this new feature will allow you to easily transfer games, game saves and DLC from one console to another much like the Memory Unit does now, but with full games, you'll still have to insert the disc in order to prove that you own it.

It's said that the update is coming this Spring, and once it happens, all Xbox 360 users will be able to "download Xbox Live Arcade games, Xbox Live Indie games, Games on Demand, DLC and Title Updates to the storage device." This is certainly something that the console has needed for awhile, and we definitely love giving more power to the user, even if it means fewer Memory Unit sales.
