Valve Celebrates Selling 500,000 Steam Controllers By Discounting Them To $35
Valve went out on a bit of a limb when it decided to design its own gamepad, but gamers have spoken and apparently they dig the the somewhat funky design. Otherwise, it's hard to imagine that Valve could sell over 500,000 of them, as it claims to have done in a blog post outlining some of the recent changes it's made.
"We’re excited to announce that over half a million Steam Controllers have been sold. With every controller that comes online we get the opportunity to get more feedback on how to make the Steam Controller even better. We’ve been hard at work with the community, and wanted to share some of the recent improvements we’ve made together," Valve said.
According to Valve, developers are getting better about fine turning their games to work with the Steam Controller at launch. Some recent examples include Doom, XCOM 2, and Dark Souls III, with plenty more in the pipeline.
Some other notable changes and improvements:

Some other notable changes and improvements:
- You can now configure and use the controller from your desktop, including the pop-up keyboard to communicate with your non-Steam programs.
- Rumble pass-through as been added, allowing the Steam Controller to use its Force Reactors to reproduce rumble effects from your games.
- The ability to create templates and apply them across all of your games.
- The ability to create multiple Action Sets and switch between them on the fly.
Valve also said it enhanced support for games purchased outside of Steam, and added full Steam Controller support in VR Game Theater mode. In other words, Valve's been busy tweaking its Steam Controller from multiple angles, though it's far from finished. Sometime soon, Valve will add the ability to use Activators to assign actions to press-and-hold, double click, toggle, and more.
