The promise of 5G wireless service has been exciting for most users as carriers like Verizon have promised not only much faster data speeds on-the-go with mobile devices, but also much faster wireless speeds inside homes and businesses. Verizon has touted its 5G Home service that will put faster 5G wireless speeds inside homes with downloads of 1Gbps promised. One caveat to that service is that the initial rollout will be in only five cities.

A new video of a user tesing the Verizon 5G service on a Samsung Galaxy S10 5G smartphone has surfaced, and it shows that Verizon has made good on its 5G promises in Chicago. The video shows the S10 5G shooting up to 1098 Mbps download speed on a device that is available on a commercial wireless network.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is the first device that supports the Verizon 5G network right out of the box. Motorola has a device called the Z3 that will support the Verizon 5G network, but users have to purchase an additional $200 accessory to get that support. Verizon is currently selling the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G device for $1,299.99 with 256GB of storage and a version for $1,399.99 that has 512GB of storage. Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg has stated that the company has seen "tens of thousands" of customers buy the Galaxy S10 5G smartphone.

Right now the Verizon 5G network is only available in Chicago and Minneapolis, but it is expected to roll out to 20 cities around the nation by the end of 2019. Verizon has plans four 5G supporting smartphones this year. In 2020, the company expects that 75% of the phones it launches will support 5G. Apple isn't expected to launch an iPhone with 5G support this year, and a recent report claims that its in-house 5G modem is delayed until at least 2025.
