Verizon Gifts Free Year Of Disney+ To All Unlimited Wireless Customers

Disney Plus
Verizon Wireless is teaming up with The Walt Disney Company to offer subscribers of its unlimited wireless plan a free year of Disney+, the upcoming streaming service that goes live on November 12, 2019. The freebie perk also extends to new Fios Home Internet and 5G home Internet customers, Verizon announced today.

No small perk, an annual subscription to Disney+ runs $69.99. Alternatively, users can sign up for a monthly plan priced at $6.99 per month (which comes out to $83.88 per year).

"Giving Verizon customers an unprecedented offer and access to Disney+ on the platform of their choice is yet another example of our commitment to provide the best premium content available through key partnerships on behalf of our customers," said Verizon Chairman and CEO Hans Vestberg. "Our work with Disney extends beyond Disney+ as we bring the power of 5G Ultra Wideband technology to the entertainment industry through exciting initiatives with Disney Innovation Studios and in the parks."

Verizon's offer as it applies to its 4G LTE and 5G unlimited wireless customers extends to both new and existing subscribers. At launch, eligible customers can activate their Disney+ subscription and start streaming movies and TV shows on a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, connected TVs, game consoles, and streaming media players.

Disney+ will feature a bunch of original content based on Disney's extensive IP. For example, The Mandalorian is a live-action series based on the Star Wars universe, and an untitled Mickey Mouse documentary is also in the works, the latter of which is part of a nonfiction lineup. It will also include every Star Wars movie and several Marvel Studios flicks.

Disney's partnership with Verizon is a strategic one that will undoubtedly bolster Disney+'s subscriber numbers right out of the gate. Retaining some of those customers after the free year will also help Disney compete in a crowded field that includes Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, HBO Go, and Netflix.

While some Verizon customers will be getting Disney+ free for a year, anyone else who is interested can preorder the service on the Disney+ website.
