Verizon Prices 5G Moto Mod For Motorola Moto Z3, Offers Unlimited Data
Motorola first announced its Moto Z3 flagship Android smartphone back in early August, and at the time claimed that it would be among the first smartphones available with 5G connectivity. However, this connectivity wasn't embedded directly into the phone; it comes via the 5G Moto Mod accessory that attaches magnetically to the back of the smartphone.
It's been a long time since that initial introduction to the Moto Z3 -- and our hands-on review -- but Motorola and Verizon are finally ready to market the 5G Moto Mod accessory. Beginning tomorrow, March 14th, you'll be able to preorder the 5G Moto Mod from Verizon at a cost of just $50. This $50 pricing is just a limited time offer, however, as the retail price of the accessory is much higher at $349.
Unlike AT&T's mobile 5G service which is capped at 15GB, Verizon’s service will give you unlimited data. The first three months of 5G access will be free, and you'll pay $10 per month for access thereafter. Verizon says that you will need to have an existing unlimited data plan -- Verizon Go Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited or Above Unlimited -- so the $10 appears to be an access charge on top of your existing plan pricing.
To further sweeten the deal, Verizon says that if you order the 5G Moto Mod on March 14th, you'll get a Moto Z3 smartphone for free when activating a new line of service. This seems rather comical to us, as it's usually the other way around when it comes to free offers (with the accessory being the free item).

Verizon says that customers in Chicago and Minneapolis will be among the first to access its 5G Ultra Wideband network, and that service will be extended to over 30 cities by the end of 2019. The actual 5G service will actually go live on April 11th.
