Verizon Touts Apps for Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus

In recent months, Verizon Wireless has used various map ads to tell everyone about its 3G network. Now, the company wants its users to know about various apps for the Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus smartphones that will shine thanks to the wireless carrier's 3G network.

More specifically, Verizon Wireless points out the following apps for business users:
  • AP Mobile, a free news app which provides news, rich photo galleries and videos from more than 1,000 local trusted news sources.
  • A free app from The New York Times that will keep you up to date on trends in business, politics, sports and arts.
  • NewsRoom, available for $4.99, provides more than just traditional news, including gossip, gadgets, sports and fan sites.
  • For free real-time stock market information with prices, line charts, news stories and summaries, there's Top Stocks Lite.
  • If you're on the go, Expense Tracker can help you track balances on a day-to-day basis. This app costs $1.99.

Students can get in on the app action with these apps:
  • For $1, 3D Plotter lets you plot graphs of two-dimensional functions in 3-D by entering the formula and the range.
  • A free Translator app can translate 45 languages with the tap of a button using Google translation services. After translating a message, you can send it to one of your contacts via email or message.

Finally, busy moms can make the most of their Web-capable smartphones thanks to these apps:
  • Shopping List ($1.99) lets you create template lists for meals or items you frequently buy. With the lists, you can include a name, enable prices, specify sales tax, and assign priority. For individual items, you can include a name, price, quantity, aisle, multiple coupons, sales tax, and notes. The app also lets you send lists via e-mail and SMS.
  • When you're getting ready to walk out the door, the free GPS-enabled app from The Weather Channel will tell you what you need to pack to be prepared for the weather. This app gives you instant access to interactive radar and satellite maps, current conditions, and hourly forecasts.
