Verizon Wireless Rolls Out Android 5.0 Lollipop For Samsung Galaxy S5

With all the news and rumors surrounding the upcoming launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S6, it’s easy to forget about the company’s current flagship smartphone: the Galaxy S5. The Galaxy S5 may not have lived up to Samsung’s sales expectations, but there are still millions of the devices out in the wild.

And a large subset of those smartphones can now access an upgrade that users have been craving for months: Android 5.0 Lollipop. According to Droid-Life, there are actually two updates to download. The first one is a small prerequisite update to prepare the phone for Lollipop. The second update is the actual VRU1BNLC build of Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The changelog from Verizon points out the following changes/additions:

Material Design

• Android Lollipop brings the all-new material design offering fluid animations, vivid colored themes, and 3-D views for a more pleasurable experience

Basic Interaction

• Bolder color and more fluid animation
• The on/off toggle button style updated based on material design

Lock Screen

• The shortcuts for both Phone and Camera are provided for convenience
• Material design-inspired notifications
• Ability to set priority and privacy for notifications on lock screen
• Provide music control as a card to utilize the real estate of the lock screen UI
• Brighter look and feel, bold colors, fluid animation inspired by material design.

TouchWiz

• Floating action buttons provide easy access to the app’s most important features, such as adding a new contact or favorite, or composing a text message

Interruptions

• Interruptions give you more advanced options to control your sound settings
• Priority notifications such as events and reminders, phone calls, and messages can be set up to sound or vibrate while all other notifications are muted

• Easy access to your Chrome tabs right from the Recent apps page; Multi-window icons for ease-of-use during multi-tasking

Patient Verizon Wireless Galaxy S5 owners can simply wait for your phone to automatically notify you that the updates are ready. But we all know that you aren’t patient; so you can simply navigate to Settings —-> System Update to initiate the upgrade process on your own.
