ViewSonic Introduces VSD220 Smart Display With OMAP 4 Processor And Android OS

ViewSonic announced a new touch screen desktop display known as the VSD220 Smart Display. The VSD220 pairs a 22-inch 1920x1080 full-HD resolution monitor with a Texas Instruments dual-core, ARM-based OMAP 4 processor and the Android 4.0 operating system.

The VSD220 is designed for surfing the web, using social networks, and running Android apps. To facilitate these uses, the VSD220 offers RJ45 Ethernet and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity. You'll also find a 1.2 megapixel webcam and integrated microphone on the VSD220 designed for videoconferencing and photo taking. In addition to using the display as you would a giant tablet, the VSD220 can also be used as a traditional computer display that's touch enabled.

If you choose to use the VSD220 as a traditional PC, you'll be glad to know that you can hook up a number of different keyboards and mice using one of the three included USB ports. Other connectivity options on the VSD220 include a micro HDMI port, microSD card reader, and Bluetooth connectivity. To round out the multimedia experience offered through this display, the VSD220 offers integrated SRS Premium Sound speakers.

ViewSonic is planning to offer the VSD220 Smart Display in North America in mid-to-late October for an estimated price of $399.
