Vivo Apex 2019 Seamless Phone Gets Official With Snapdragon 855, 12GB RAM And 5G

Vivo Apex 2019
Forgot about bezels, notches, so-called 'punch holes', and anything else smartphone makers might come up with to accommodate a front camera while maintaining maximum screen real estate. Vivo took things in a different direction. The Chinese technology company formally introduced its Apex 2019 handset, and it boasts an impressive 98 percent screen-to-body ratio.

The descriptor that is going around is "seamless," as in the Apex 2019 is a seamless fusion of glass and metal without any openings. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor, and if you run your fingers around the edges, you will not find any ports, not even a USB charging port—it charges wirelessly via a magnetic connector called a MagPort on the back.

What about the front camera? Well, that is either the phone's Achilles' heel or a bold trade off—there is not a selfie camera to be found. It does not reside in a notch or punch-hole, or anywhere else, because it simply does not exist on the Apex 2019.

From Vivo's standpoint, people should be enamored with the phone's innovations and what it does offer, rather than focus on the missing selfie cam. To that end, it's somewhat of a concept device that points to future handset technologies.

"With the goal of enhanced usability and simplicity at the core, Apex 2019 offers consumers a glimpse into the future of smartphone design and development. The Super Unibody design and full display fingerprint scanning technology, among several other breakthrough features, make Apex 2019 a truly exceptional smartphone that demonstrates Vivo's continuous exploration and pursuit of exceptional innovation for consumers," Vivo says.

The Apex 2019 boasts a peppy Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor paired with a generous heaping of 12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage.

It also features a 5G modem, making the first in Vivo's lineup to do so. 5G connectivity in the Apex 2019 is powered by Qualcomm's X50 5G chipset. it was no easy task wedging it in there, apparently. Vivo says it utilized a stacked PCB design to make room for the 5G hardware.

While there is no selfie camera to be found, the Apex 2019 does feature a dual camera on the back. It's not clear what the specifications are, though.

Whether this phone actually launches remains to be seen, as does the price. Vivo is planning to show it off at Mobile World Congress (MWC) next month.
