Vivo Nex 3 Leak Hints At Highest Phone Screen-To-Body Ratio Ever, Baby Got Glass

Vivo makes some relatively attractive smartphones, ones that follow the usual premium script, as well as uniquely designed handsets like the Nex Dual Display. The company's upcoming Nex 3, however, is going to flaunt some sexy glass. That is according to a couple of new Twitter posts by prominent leaker Ice Universe.

The photo (shown above) shows two hunks of glass for the front and back, with curved sides that look to be nearly 90 degrees. Sandwiched together, the glass housing will completely wrap around the Nex 3. Additionally, Ice Universe notes there is "no hole" to be found and "no notch" either.

"The Vivo Nex 3 is probably the highest screen-to-body ratio phone in 2019. The screen-to-body ratio is over 100 percent based on the 'display area/projected area' calculation method," he says.

Assuming the leak is accurate, Vivo has not achieved the elusive goal of using a single pane of glass for all sides of a smartphone. However, this looks to be as close as it gets, in terms of appearing that way. The question is, at what cost?

Without a notch or bezel or holes of any kind, Vivo will have to rely on some clever engineering for the selfie camera. It could be a motorized pop-up affair, like Vivo did with its V15 handset, or an under-display camera if the company wants to follow Oppo's lead. Incidentally, Vivo and Oppo are both subsidiaries of BBK Electronics.

Other details will have to wait as well, such as what processor will be inside (probably a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or 855 Plus), how much RAM and storage, the size of the battery, and so forth.
