Vivo V15 Pro Gets Official With Pop-Up Selfie Camera And Snapdragon 675

The Vivo V15 Pro is a perplexing smartphone; one that takes some of the intriguing design features of Vivo's previous flagship designs and applies them to a more budget-friendly device.

The most obvious feature of the V15 Pro is a large 6.4-inch OLED display this is unbroken by unsightly notches or punch-hole cutouts. Instead, the smartphone gets around these design crutches by placing the selfie camera on a module that pops out from the top of the smartphone. It's not the most elegant solution -- and it is a mechanical system that could be prone to malfunction -- but it does at least look cool.

Speaking of the selfie camera (which we have previously talked about), it is a 32MP unit which should allow for some amazing photographs. Of course, having a high megapixel count doesn't automatically guarantee that everything will all be roses and daffodils, but we're optimistic.

Out back there are three cameras, including a 48MP main sensor (although it shoots 12MP photographs by default), an 8MP wide-angle sensor and a 5MP depth sensor. The three main cameras are mounted in-line with the pop-up selfie camera, so you shouldn't be too surprised to see a very noticeable camera bump on the back.

Moving on, given that this is more of a mid-range device, the V15 Pro is packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor paired with 8GB of RAM. 128GB of internal storage is included, although you can expand this with the microSD slot. Power is sourced from a relatively capacious 3700 mAh battery, which is recharged via -- sit down for this one -- a microUSB port. Xiaomi is still using microUSB in 2019? Perhaps the company didn't get the memo that everyone switched to USB-C years ago (save for Apple with its iPhone).

Other items of note include an in-display fingerprint reader, a 3.5mm headphone jack (which is becoming more of a rarity these days) and Android 9 Pie that is "enhanced" with Vivo's Funtouch OS 9 UI layer.

Vivo says that the V15 Pro is set to launch in the coming weeks (first starting in India) at a price of around $400.
