Walmart Is Selling A $10 LG Android Smartphone For The Ultimate Penny Pinchers
Wireless carriers are making a push towards having customers purchase smartphones through monthly installments rather than offering subsidized pricing attached to two-year commitments, but fear not, there are some cheap options out there. One of them is found at Walmart -- it's an Android handset that sells for under $10.
The LG L15G Sunrise is a pre-paid TracFone that goes for $9.82 at the mega-retailer that sells everything from diapers and baby formula to hunting gear and fishing supplies. As you can imagine, a $10 phone isn't going to give Samsung's Galaxy S6 or Apple's iPhone 6s Plus a run for their money, but unlike those devices, you won't have a heart attack if you drop the L15G Sunrise on the pavement.
LG's thrifty handset wields a 3.8-inch touchscreen display powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.2GHz dual-core MSM8210 processor, an entry-level SoC with an Adreno 302 GPU. There's no mention of RAM, but we did a little digging and the consensus on the web is that it has 512MB, which is enough to get by but by no means copious.
The budget device offers up 4GB of internal storage, 1.15GB of which is usable (the rest goes towards the operating system and bundled goodies). There's also a microSD card slot with a 4GB memory card included in the phone.
Other specs include a 3-megapixel rear camera with flash and recording capability, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, 3G connectivity (no love for 4G LTE on this thing), 1,540 mAh battery that's good for up to 7 hours of talk time and nearly 10 days of standby, and Android 4.4 KitKat.
