Walmart Slashes iPhone SE To $299, Offers $150 Discount On Samsung Galaxy S7 And S7 Edge

Apple turned a few heads and sparked quite a bit of interest when it announced the iPhone SE in late March. The iPhone SE, which comes from a company notorious for launching high-priced smartphones, includes the high performance internals of Apple’s current flagships at an attractive $399 starting price ($249 less than the iPhone 6s).

Apparently, $399 isn’t cheap enough for the Walmart, as the company is taking $100 off the price of the iPhone SE, which makes it an even more attractive proposition for the Apple faithful (and perhaps Android users that have traditionally thumbed their noses at Apple’s pricier smartphones).

There is a catch, however; you must purchase the phone using an installment plan via Verizon Wireless, AT&T, or Sprint. T-Mobile customers will have to sit this one out, as the third-place U.S. wireless carrier isn’t participating in the promotion. Likewise, the $100 price reduction doesn’t come in the form of an instant credit or a gift card — it will show up as a discount on your monthly bill over the course of your installment plan.

While the $100 discount represents a more significant savings (as a portion of the overall device cost) on the iPhone SE, the discount also applies to other Apple smartphones including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

The iPhone SE is for all intents and purposes is an iPhone 5s with vastly upgraded processing performance and a superior main camera. The 4-inch display and exterior remain largely unchanged, but you’ll find a new A9 SoC and M9 motion processor, 12MP rear camera, Apple Pay support, and Live Photos functionality. The iPhone SE has also been shown to feature vastly superior battery life compared to the older iPhone 5s.

For those of you firmly in the Samsung camp, Walmart is also offering a larger $150 discount on all of the South Korean company’s smartphones. And yes, the newly launched Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge are eligible for the promotion.
