Western Digital Beefs Up My Cloud Storage Lineup With Four New NAS Units
Western Digital ended the work week by rolling out four new network attached storage (NAS) solutions split into two product segments -- the My Cloud Expert Series consisting of the My Cloud EX2100 (two-bay solution) and My Cloud EX4100 (four-bay solution), and the My Cloud Business Series with the My Cloud DL2100 (two-bay) and My Cloud DL4100 (four-bay).
The My Cloud EX2100 and EX4100 sport the latest versions of the dual-core ARMADA processor (385 and 388) and offer top-class read and write speeds for simultaneous, high-performance HD media streaming and up to 24TB of storage capacity, WD says.
Both solutions come with WD Red drives that are designed for NAS boxes. They can be configured using multiple RAID options, including RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, JBOD, and spanning models. Using WD's included SmartWare Pro software for PCs, users can centralize and backup their data, or configured the NAS box to work as a digital entertainment hub.
For business users, the DL2100 and DL4100 kicks things up a notch by trading in the ARM chips for Intel Atom dual-core processors, up to 2GB of RAM, and support for up to 24TB of storage capacity.
These NAS boxes offer AES 256-bit volume encryption and can either backup to themselves, to another My Cloud in different location, or to cloud services like Amazon S3 and ElephantDrive. Other business-ready features include iSCSI target and initiator, replication, and file synchronization, integrated FTP, WebDAV server, SSH Shell, Micorsoft Active Directory, dual power supply ports with fail over, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and UPS support.
Pricing starts at $250 for a diskless My Cloud EX2100 and goes all the way up to $1,530 for a My Cloud LD4100 with 24TB.
