Windows 10 Anniversary Update Inches Closer To RTM With Build 14383 For PC And Mobile

Subscribers to the Windows Insider program who signed up for the Fast ring have a new Windows 10 build to play with, that being build 14383. It's available for both PC and Mobile, and with this release Microsoft moves ever closer to the Release To Manufacturing (RTM) version of its Windows 10 Anniversary Update that's rolling out to customers on August 2, 2016.

Microsoft tells Windows Insiders that they'll notice a few things different in this release versus prior builds, such as the desktop watermark being gone. That's because Microsoft is beginning to finalize code for the aforementioned RTM release, so what you see in these builds are largely what the public will get when August rolls around. That said, Microsoft is still looking for feedback here in the home stretch.

"But we're not finished yet and will have more builds to release to Windows Insiders between now and then," Microsoft noted in a blog post. "Remember you guys play a big role in helping us decide which are the final *final* bits that we ship globally."

There are a dozen highlighted fixes and improvements to the PC side in build 14383. Most are relatively minor, such as the link to "Get more extensions from the Store" under the Extensions pane in Microsoft Edge now taking users directly to the Store to download available extensions. Microsoft also said that going forward starting with this build, updates to the Quick Action area of Action Center will be preserved across upgrades.

Fixes and improvements on the mobile side totaled a baker's dozen, including battery performance for those who tend to quickly their screens on and off to look at the Lock screen, and some wonkiness where many Windows Phone 8.1 games seemed to play in slow motion on certain devices, such as the Lumia 535.

There are still a few known issues Microsoft is working to resolve, but for the most part, things seem to be coming along nicely for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update.
