Windows 10 Creators Update Build 15063 Is Latest In Rapid Fire RTM Countdown

We are just weeks away from Microsoft releasing its Creators Update for Windows 10, one of two major Windows platform updates scheduled for 2017. Microsoft will use the remaining time to clean up code and stomp out bugs, hence why it continues to dish out preview builds to Windows Insiders. In fact, Microsoft began this week by releasing a new preview build (15063) to Insiders in the Fast ring.

At this late stage, it is not likely that Microsoft will inject any major new features into the Creators Update. Even minor feature additions will be rare at best. Rumor has it Microsoft will release the Creators Update on April 11, and if that holds true, it is running short on time. That means the remaining preview builds will be focused on fixing issues rather than introducing any more shiny new bells and whistles.

Windows 10 All Apps

In this latest release, Microsoft addressed two issues for the PC. The first is a reliability issue from build 15061 that was causing its Edge browser to hang and become completely unresponsive. And the other bug that Microsoft stomped out in this latest build is one where the localized files and registry keys associated with any additional language packs on the system would not be installed after enabling .NET Framework 3.5

On the mobile side, the newest preview build addresses half a dozen issues. They include:
  • We fixed the bug causing a number of inbox apps to fail to launch (such as Store) and also preventing any app updates from the Store from working. Thank you all for sending us feedback around this.
  • We fixed the bug causing background tasks to not run in the background like they should such as OneDrive’s camera roll sync feature. Background tasks should be working again as expected and your camera roll will sync to OneDrive again.
  • We fixed the issue where in some cases you may lose your call, text, and email history may be lost if your device experiences an unexpected reboot.
  • Speech Packs should download and install normally.
  • We fixed an issue for Insiders with certain cars resulting in connection failures after pairing Bluetooth.
  • We fixed an issue where replacing the default APN for LTE on the phone wouldn’t work.
Microsoft warns that attempting to update from the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (build 14393) to this build on mobile will not work. There is an extra step required—if you use WDRT to re-flash your device and join the Fast ring, you'll be offered build 15055 instead of build 15063. Once build 15055 is applied, you can update to 15063.

"We know the builds have been fast and furious lately. We appreciate your enthusiasm and excitement and we absolutely love co-creating this product we love with all of you," Microsoft said.

Fast and furious as they've been, more will be coming, and probably at the same clip. There are still a bunch of known issues that Microsoft would like to address. However, they're mostly minor annoyances at this point.
