Windows 10 Gains Defender Security Center Hub In April’s Creators Update

Windows 10
The upcoming 'Creator's Update' for Windows 10 is shaping up to be one of the best "service packs" (if we can call them that) that Microsoft has ever released. While it's not the most exciting feature being added with the update, enhanced security is something that will be appreciated by a broad spectrum of customers ranging from everyday consumers to the enterprise sector.

As it stands today, Windows' most popular security-related features are kept separate, accessed either through the Windows 10 Settings screen or through the Control Panel. In the Creators Update, five "pillars" of security will cuddle together within the same app.

The official components of "Windows Defender Security Center" are:
  • Virus & Threat Protection
  • Firewall & Network Protection
  • App & Browser Control
  • Device Performance & Health
  • Family Options

These categories are self-explanatory for the most part, but having them all bundled together in the same place is going to be a great change for Windows, regardless of whether you're a power user or PC illiterate.

One section that could prove to be very useful is Device Performance & Health, as it will allow you to get a quick overview of your storage situation, battery life, drivers, and will even let you reset Windows if you need to. The only thing that would make this section even better is if Microsoft included temperature information. How hard could that be?

The Creators Update is set to land at some point this spring, but those using Insider Preview builds are sure to gain access to it with one of the next incoming builds. Overall, we'd reckon that it's one feature worth looking forward to, as this security design makes things so much easier to manage, regardless of your skill level.
