Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 10547 Brings Improved Start Menu, Tablet Mode
For those using the Fast ring in Windows 10, a brand-new build awaits. This one is build 10547 and Microsoft notes that many bugs have been patched up since 10532. There's a fair bit of tweaking that's been done as well, notably to improve the customization capabilities of the OS.
Start is one of the areas that has seen an improvement. If somehow 512 tiles wasn't a good enough maximum for you, you'll be happy to know that the number has been boosted to 2048. It's a little strange that there has to be a maximum at all, much less one that seems to stick to multiple numbers reminiscent of byte sizes. Nonetheless, also tweaked here is the ability to have four columns, allowing you to put two large tiles side-by-side.
Tablet mode has also seen improvements, now allowing you to snap apps left and right from the task view. And, as expected, some of the apps themselves have also been updated. Photos, for example, now allows you to use a folder view. Microsoft says that Groove, Mail, Calendar and Maps have all received updates, but isn't specific about what those updates entail.
A minor addition, but if you don't want a wallpaper on the sign-in screen, you'll now have the option to get rid of it.
If you're a fast ring user, you should see the option to update to this new build now. So that you're well apprised of what's been fixed and which bugs remain, be sure to hit up the URL below.
