Windows 10 Mobile Build 10572 Doesn’t Fix Upgrade Bug, But Allows Texting From Windows 10 PCs

Nearly a week ago, Microsoft released Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10549 to testers. The test software brought updates to Cortana, the Messaging apps and the Lumia Camera app. But Build 10549 was probably most notable for forcing testers to revert back to Windows Phone 8.1 before updating due to a last minute bug.

Today see the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10572, however, it doesn’t yet alleviate the need to downgrade to Windows Phone 8.1 before upgrading to newer builds. “We have fixed this issue in our latest internal builds, and new builds greater than 10575 will have the fix,” said Microsoft’s Gabe Aul.

So if Microsoft hasn’t fixed the bug, why is Microsoft still releasing a new build? Well, there are some new features on tap that the company just couldn’t wait to get into the hands of testers.

Windows 10 benefit 6

iPhone users running iOS 8 (and newer) alongside OS X Yosemite (and newer) will be familiar with the first new feature. You will now be able to receive missed call notifications, courtesy of Cortana, from your Windows 10 Mobile smartphone on your Windows 10 PC. Likewise, you’ll also be able to send texts from your Windows 10 PC as if they were sent directly from your smartphone by using Cortana.

“If you want to send a text from your PC at any time (even when you haven’t missed a call), just type or speak ‘Text’ and the name of a contact to Cortana on your PC just like you would on your phone and Cortana will take your message and send it from your phone too,” explained Aul.

Some other improvements include the ability to save offline maps to an SD card instead of taking up precious internal storage, enhancements to the Photos app and some UX improvements for storage settings. There also a number of fixes in this build (and new bugs which have been introduced), which you can take note of in Microsoft’s blog posting.

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview Build 10572 is available now to users on the Fast ring.
