Install Windows 10 On ARM For Raspberry Pi 3 Easily With This New Tool

But a developer by the name of José Manuel Nieto is making it easy for you to install a slightly more mainstream version of Windows 10 on your Raspberry Pi 3. He has created the WoA installer, which is a quick and easy tool for creating a bootable Windows 10 on ARM image for Raspberry Pi. 

Now we must forewarn you that Windows 10 on ARM first launched on systems running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 smartphone SoC. Early performance of convertibles running that chip left a lot to be desired. Second-generation devices use the more PC-centric Snapdragon 850, which helped improve the performance situation.

The ARM chips powering Raspberry Pi devices are geared more towards the lower-end of performance and are built with low costs in mind. So don’t expect to set any benchmark records with a Raspberry Pi device, especially considering that Windows on ARM relies heavily on emulation for win32 apps. Unlike those aforementioned octa-core SoCs, the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ uses a 1.4GHz 64-bit quad-core processor (Cortex-A53).

But for those that want to experiment, all that you’ll need is a Raspberry Pi 3B/B+, a microSD card and an image of Windows 10 ARM64. From there, you’ll have to download the WoA Installer and the Core Package. Next, run the WoA Installer, and then go to the Advanced section, where you’ll want to click “Import Core Package”. After that’s done, run the Windows 10 installer and you should be good to go.

Although the usage cases for running Windows 10 on ARM with a Raspberry Pi 3 might be limited, it’s nice to see that developers are thinking outside the box.
