Windows 10 Redstone 2 Public Release Reportedly Coming March 2017

It appears that Microsoft has set a launch date for Windows 10 Redstone 2. WalkingCat, the same Twitter user that leaked videos of Microsoft’s newest version of the Paint app, tweeted that Redstone 2 will have the build number 1703.

If you know how to decipher Microsoft’s build numbers for release versions of Windows 10, it’s pretty easy to determine when Redstone 2 will drop. The initial public release of Windows 10 (1507) launched in July 2015 — take note the positioning of 15 for the year and 07 for the month. Windows 10 Version 1511 was released in November 2015. Finally, the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607) went RTM in July 2016.

So if Microsoft sticks to its current pattern, we should see Windows 10 Redstone 2 release to the public in March 2013. As we’ve reported previously, here's what the three major public releases for Windows 10 brought to the table for users:

• Windows 10 (Version 1507): AKA Threshold 1, this was the initial public release of Windows 10.
• Windows 10 November Update (Version 1511): AKA Threshold 2, was the first major update to Windows 10, and brought with it numerous performance enhancements and tweaks to Cortana and Edge
• Windows 10 Anniversary Update (Version 1607): AKA Redstone 1, was released over the summer and is the biggest update to Windows 10 to date. It brings Windows Ink, Windows Hello, a vastly improved Cortana, extension support for Edge, and Start menu tweaks to the operating system

Redstone 2, which at this point is unnamed, will bring with its a wealth of feature additions. Just in the past 24 hours, Microsoft marched along with another Insider Preview release, Build 14946, which brought with it new touchpad gestures, screen time-out for Windows 10 Mobile devices running Continuum, updated Wi-Fi settings and autocorrection updates for mobile. In addition, we’ve already seen other new feature such as the ability to type in a PIN when logging into Windows regardless of the state of Number Lock and Cortana “snooze” functionality in the Edge internet browser.

Microsoft is also pretty far along in development on a blue light reduction filter to help reduce eye strain.
