Windows 10 Redstone 3 Build 16188 Debuts With Defender Application Guard And Ninjacat Hijinks

Windows 10
Windows 10 Redstone 3 is off to a brisk start, as Microsoft is shipping new builds to the Fast ring at an impressive pace. A week ago, Microsoft delivered Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16184, and today the company has released Build 16188.

Despite the seemingly minuscule jump in build numbers, there are plenty of new features that are lurking within this latest Redstone 3 release. Microsoft has made some significant changes to the PDF Reader that is incorporated into the Edge web browser. Microsoft has added the ability to include annotations and fill-in PDF-based forms in Edge. Navigation has been made easier thanks to a Table of Contents feature and a new document rotation button has been added to the toolbar.

Microsoft is stepping up security within Edge with the arrival of the Windows Defender Application Guard. “Microsoft Edge running in Application Guard provides enterprises the maximum level of protection from malware and zero day attacks against Windows,” writes Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar.

As we reported last year, Windows Defender Application Guard can launch the Edge browser in an isolated session, protecting you from malware threats. This virtualized environment completely safeguards the underlying operating system from attacks. Even if malware were to be present within the virtualized session, it would immediately be terminated once the browser is closed.

We should note that prerequisites for enabling the Windows Defender Application Guard are Windows 10 Enterprise Edition and a PC that supports Hyper-V.

There are also a few other new features sprinkled throughout this new build including Cortana’s arrival in the Settings menu, new Magnifier settings, new “toast” notifications when a fresh Insider Preview build is available, and the appearance of Ninjacat as the official icon for the Windows Insider Program section in Settings.

Windows Insiders on the Fast ring can try out Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 16188 right now.
