Xbox Anaconda And Lockhart Gaming Console Hardware Rumored For E3 2019 Unveil
Sunshine and swimming weather are not the only reasons to be excited about summer being only a few months away. It is also when the annual E3 convention in Los Angeles will take place, and Microsoft may use the event to announce a couple of upcoming Xbox game consoles codenamed "Lockhart" and "Anaconda."
In case you might be wondering, Microsoft is definitely not finished releasing new Xbox consoles. Phil Spencer, executive vice president of gaming and head of the Xbox brand at Microsoft, left little doubt about this in the comments he made in November about Xbox's future.
"The reason I love the consoles that we build is because I think we can build very special consoles. I see it today with Xbox One X and how games run on the Xbox One X, I think it's a fantastic place to play. When I look at our future plans, I am very excited about what we are going to do in the console space," Spencer said at the time.
As it pertains to Lockhart and Anaconda, those are two codenames that have been in the wild since last year. Why two, though? It's said that Lockhart will essentially be a more affordable streaming machine, while Anaconda will be a higher end console for more hardcore gaming.
Leaked specs look like the following for Lockhart...
- Custom CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads
- Custom Navi graphics with 4+ teraflops
- 12GB of GDDR6 memory
- 1TB NVMe SSD
And here are the leaked specs for Anaconda...
- Custom CPU with 8 cores and 16 threads
- Custom Navi graphics with 12+ teraflops
- 16GB of GDDR6 memory
- 1TB NVMe SSD
Both models are said to be powered by an AMD processor based on the company's Zen 2 CPU architecture, which will be paired with its upcoming Navi GPU. They will also feature NVMe storage for faster load times.
Additionally, it is said that Lockhart will deliver native 1080p gaming, while Anaconda will kick things up a notch with native 4K gaming, as it will have a more powerful version of Navi underneath the hood. Take all that with a grain of salt, of course, both because none of this has been confirmed and because the specs could change between now and when these consoles launch.
Anaconda is expected to cost $500, the same as the Xbox One X at launch. It's not clear what price point Microsoft will target with Lockhart.
E3 runs from Tuesday, June 11 to Thursday, June 13.
