Xbox Chief Phil Spencer On Street Fighter 5 Snub: "Business Deals Happen"

Late last week, a teaser trailer for Street Fighter 5 found its way onto the Internet. One curious takeaway from the trailer was the game would be an exclusive for the PlayStation 4 on consoles (it’s also coming to the PC).

Fighting fans that also happen to be Xbox One owners were clearly dismayed with the exclusivity agreement, so fans naturally took to Twitter to get some answers from Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s Xbox Division Head. When questioned about the Street Fighter 5 snub, Spencer responded honestly, stating, “Business deals happen. We won't do all of them. When we have a 1st party franchise in a genre I'd rather invest in ours.”

Indeed, Microsoft has a popular gaming franchise of its own with Killer Instinct. Spencer went on to add that investing its own IP is keep to helping the Xbox One thrive in the marketplace:

The last Killer Instinct game was released in 2013 as a launch title for the Xbox One. As we’re just one year removed from the launch of the last Killer Instinct title, there has yet to be an announcement for the next installment in the franchise.
