Xbox One Chalks Up Fourth Consecutive Monthly Sales Victory Over Rival PS4
When we reported on the Xbox One’s third consecutive sales victory last month, we reckoned that sales of the newly launched PlayStation 4 Slim would reverse the losing streak for Sony. However, Microsoft has still been able to maintain its sales victories.
“Thanks to the passion of Xbox fans worldwide and their continued excitement for Xbox One S, Xbox One was once again the best-selling console in October in the U.S., U.K. and Australia,” said Xbox Marketing Chief Mike Nichols.
Nichols went on to indicate that class-exclusive hardware features and a strong gaming lineup have also contributed to the Xbox One’s newfound resurgence in the marketplace. “With over 100 award-winning exclusive games, the fastest and most reliable gaming network with Xbox Live, built-in UHD 4K Blu-ray and 4K video streaming support and HDR for gaming and video, Xbox One S is the ultimate games and 4K entertainment system,” Nichols added.
“New game launches like Gears of War 4 and Battlefield 1, and continued engagement with an exceptionally strong catalog of games on Xbox One, helped increase the number of Xbox Live multiplayer gamers by 52 percent compared to last year.”
Can Microsoft keep the winning streak alive for the month of November? The company is currently running a promotion that give customers who purchase a new Xbox One or Xbox One S bundle one free additional game (either via physical disc or digital download). And Black Friday deals for the Xbox One S are already being advertised (for example, Target will have the Xbox One S Battlefield 1 bundle for $249.99 with a free $40 Target gift card).
Sony, however, is not exactly rolling over for Microsoft. There will also be competing Black Friday deals on the PlayStation 4, and the powerful PlayStation 4 Pro just launched this week which could give Sony a sales boost this month.
