Xbox Project Scorpio Screenshots Show Stunning 4K Quality And Detail
In the meantime, we’re learning a little bit more about the console in the lead up to its official unveil. Today, we’re being treated to some screenshots which show the difference in image quality and detail between games rendered at 1080p versus 4K that’s possible with Project Scorpio.
Although the screenshots were taken from a tech demo that Microsoft showcased at a private event, the differences between 1080p and 4K are still impressive. You’ll have to hit up the source link below to see close-up side-by-side comparisons of the two (complete with fancy sliders), but there are immediate benefits to the detail in the character model’s face and hair along with noticeably sharpened backgrounds.

These image quality improvements aren’t just limited to native 4K resolutions; there are even detail improvements to be found with Scorpio running at 4K on a 1080p display. “While you will undoubtedly need a 4K set to see the true benefits of Project Scorpio, you will get many enhances textures, geometry, and effects on standard HD displays,” states Windows Central. “Of course, developers will be able to enhance their games in various other ways utilizing Project Scorpio's six teraflops of GPU power to create finer details and more complex textures.”
Microsoft has confirmed the following specs for Project Scorpio:
- Eight custom AMD x86 CPU cores clocked at 2.3GHz with 4MB L2 cache
- 40 custom AMD Radeon “Polaris” GPU compute units operating at 1172MHz
- 12GB of GDDR5 memory over a 384-bit interface with maximum memory bandwidth of 326GB/sec
- 1TB HDD
Project Scorpio is expected to launch in time for the Holiday 2017 shopping rush.
