XFX's Custom Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Boasts Triple Fans And Boosted Clocks

XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT
It seems XFX is adding another "THICC" graphics card to its lineup. This latest entry, the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Ultra, ups the ante with an even larger frame than the other THICC models, to make room for three cooling fans instead of two. It will also be one of the fastest Radeon RX 5700 XT cards out there, assuming the leaked specs are correct.

This will be the fourth THICC entry in XFX's Radeon RX 5700 XT lineup. Ones that have already launched include the following...
  • XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II (RX-57XT826D6)
  • XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra (RX-57XT828D6)
  • XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra (RX-57XT8DBD6)
I'm not clear on why there are two separate SKUs for the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra—it's possible one of those SKUs is intended for a specific retail store, like Best Buy. Looking at the product pages, the specs appear to be the same (unless I'm missing something—if so, feel free to correct me in the comments section below).

As for the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICK III Ultra, the scoop from Videocardz is it will feature a 1,810MHz base clock and 2,025MHz boost clock. For reference, stock clocks for a Radeon RX 5700 XT are 1,605MHz (base) and 1,905MHz (boost). XFX's unreleased model is also faster than the 50th Anniversary Edition, at least on the top end. Here's how they compare...
  • XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Ultra: 1,810MHz base / 2,025MHz boost
  • Radeon RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition: 1,680MHz base / 1,980MHz boost
  • Radeon RX 5700 XT: 1,605MHz base / 1,905MHz boost
The THICC branding is play on words and derived from the meme. An XFX employee explained on Reddit part of the story that led to the company running with the THICC branding, despite the "cringe risk."

"So, this is 2019... We have a card named after a meme. This its because 'Thick' is what we were aiming for, but 'THICC', aesthetically, is superior and has more flavor," the employee wrote.

Like XFX's other THICC cards, the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Ultra effectively takes up three expansion slot—it's listed as a 2.7-slot card, but there is not a whole lot you can do with a fraction of a slot.

It is not clear when the Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC III Ultra will launch or how much it will cost. As points of reference, one of XFX's Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra SKUs sells for $439.99 on Amazon and the other sells for $449.99. The Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II (non-Ultra), meanwhile, goes for $429.99 on Amazon.
