Xiaomi Mi 6 Visits GFXBench Flexing Snapdragon 835 And 6GB RAM
Xiaomi founder and chief operating officer Lei Jun previously confirmed that his company is prepping a new flagship smartphone, the Mi 6, but until there is a formal announcement the specs remain a mystery. Well, officially speaking, anyway. Unofficially, we may already known what the Mi 6 is toting underneath the hood thanks to a benchmark entry in GFXBench's database.
It appears that someone put the unreleased flagship phone through its paces on GFXBench. If what the database shows is correct, the Mi 6 will wield Qualcomm's newfangled Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip (SoC), which is the same processing engine driving Samsung's recently announced Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ handsets. The sought-after SoC is also rumored to power Nokia's upcoming 9 phone.
The Snapdragon 835 is an octa-core part containing over 3 billion transistors, a new Adreno 540 GPU, and more efficient Kyro 280 CPU cores compared to the Snapdragon 820. It is based on ARM's Cortex architecture, but is a semi-custom design. Qualcomm added dedicated buses to increase system coherence and tweaked buffer sizes for improved performance and efficiency.
According to GFXBench's database entries, the Mi 6 will sport a 5.15-inch Full HD 1080p display. There will be two versions—one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, and a higher-end model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The 4GB model will run at 2.2GHz, while the 6GB variant will be clocked a little faster at 2.4GHz.
The Mi 6 also features an 8-megapixel front camera for taking selfies and a 12-megapixel rear camera, both of which are capable of 4K video recording. Amenities such as face detection, flash, autofocus, and touch focus are supported by the rear camera as well.
Finally, the handset is shown running Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) with Xioami's iOS-like MIUI skin on top.
