The 2017 Android flagship wars are starting to heat up. Just yesterday, we gave you a hands-on preview of LG’s all-new V30 flagship which features a 6-inch nearly bezel-free OLED display, an excellent dual camera system and Snapdragon 835 power. Now, Xiaomi is looking to muscle through with the successor to its revolutionary Mi Mix.

The aptly named Mi Mix 2 is set to arrive on September 11th and will be powered by the [currently unannounced] Qualcomm Snapdragon 836 processor. As is the case with the current crop of Android flagships and its predecessor, the Mi Mix 2 comes with minimal bezels surrounding its 6.2-inch display (which is down from 6.4 inches). Display resolution jumps to 2960x1440, which works out to around 531 pixels per inch (PPI).

But that’s not all; the smartphone is said to include 256GB of internal storage and a positively massive 4400 mAh battery. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 features battery capacities of 3500 mAh and 3300 mAh respectively. The Mi Mix 2 should also be one of the first smartphones that will ship with Android 8.0 Oreo onboard.

We should mention that Xiaomi’s big reveal will occur just one day ahead of Apple’s big iPhone 8 event, which will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park. So, Xiaomi will have just one day to grab headlines before the tech press descends upon Apple’s HQ to absorb the hype surrounding the next generation iPhone.

We also have to keep in mind that Google’s Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 flagships are still on the way, with at least the latter featuring tiny display bezels. The second half of 2017 is shaping up to be an action-packed arena for those in the market for a new flagship smartphone and we can’t wait to see the major players duke it out for consumers’ hard-earned cash.
