Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Photo Leaks Hints At In-Display Fingerprint Reader

Now that production is ramping up for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor, the next round of flagship Android smartphones are being announced (or leaked) at a quickening pace. Late last month, Xiaomi announced that its next flagship, the Mi Mix 2S, will launch on March 27th.

Now an alleged leaked image of the upcoming smartphone shows that it may be one of the first devices to hit the market with an in-display fingerprint sensor. We've seen such technology in development from both Synaptics and Qualcomm, but it's too early to know at this point which solution Xiaomi is adopting for the Mi Mix 2S.

Putting the fingerprint reader in the display frees up space on the front of device (although previous Mi Mix smartphones never had front-mounted fingerprint readers) and reduces complexity on the back of the device. In addition, some people just prefer a forward-facing fingerprint sensor for usability reasons.

We can also see that the display bezels are incredibly tiny, which has been a design hallmark of previous Mi Mix smartphones, with a near-100 percent screen-to-body ratio. However, the lack of bezels also means that you'll want to be extra careful with the Mi Mix 2S and -- gulp -- probably want to ensconce it in a case unless you want to stare at a cracked screen the very first time it accidentally drops to the ground.

In addition to the Snapdragon 845 processor, the Mi Mix 2S is rumored to features a 6-inch OLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of onboard storage.
