Xiaomi Teases Black Shark 2 Gaming Phone Arriving October 23

The stakes in the gaming smartphone arena are getting higher as more players enter the field. Razer got the ball rolling with the Razer Phone, and since then we've seen entries from the likes of Xiaomi and even ASUS. Back in April, Xiaomi revealed the original Black Shark gaming phone with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 6-inch Full HD+ display.

Now, the company is teasing the release of the Black Shark 2. Xiaomi isn't giving us many details on what to expect with the smartphone other than to say that all will be revealed on October 23rd, which is next week. However, a TENNA listing for the smartphone reveals that the dual-camera setup on the rear has been modified from a horizontal arrangement to vertical, positioned right above the fingerprint sensor and below the LED flash. You can also see some additional real life shots of the phone here.

The phone will reportedly still retain a 4,000 mAh battery and the 5.99-inch Full HD+ display. Unfortunately, there's no word on what processor will be used in the Black Shark 2 (perhaps the next-generation 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, although that seems unlikely). It's also a possibility that Xiaomi might want to take on all challengers with a bump to 10GB of RAM for gaming phone bragging rights.

In other gaming phone news, ASUS just opened preorders today for its ROG Phone. The ROG Phone has a 6-inch 90Hz HD+ HDR display, Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 4,000 mAh battery. It is priced at a hefty $899 and comes with a number of gaming- and productivity-oriented accessories.
