Yamaha Offers Blu-ray, Netflix In BD-A1000 Universal All-In-One Deck

Here's the thing about most of today's media streamers: they don't have an optical drive. So even though they're capable of playing lots of content from the Internet, they can't play back your old DVD or new Blu-ray Disc collection. This isn't a problem if you already own a Blu-ray or DVD player and also don't mind have two boxes under your television, but what if you want an all-in-one solution?

Yamaha has asked themselves the same question, and the answer seems to be the BD-A1000. Called a "universal Blu-ray player," this sleek deck offers 1080p HD playback via HDMI of your favorite discs, but also connects to Netflix, Blockbuster and YouTube Internet video streaming. There are even two USB ports for playing back media from local hard drives and thumb drives.

Being that it's a connected deck, it supports Blu-ray online features through BD-Live and BonusView, and it's engineered for maximum operating convenience with the Yamaha AVENTAGE line of AV receivers. The BD-A1000 offers full HD Audio decoding, 1080p/24Hz-compatible HDMI and 7.1 multi-channel analog output with four 2-channel DACs. It has Disc and USB multimedia format compatibility for AVCHD, WMV, JPEG (HD), MP3 and WMA. The BD-A1000 also provides full integration with home automation solutions and is also Control4 certified.

Additional features include an RC-232C integration control, on-screen display GUI, dual USB ports for video, music and photos playback, and detachable power cable. Of course, this all-in-one solution carries a large premium price tag, with Yamaha charging $699.95 for the deck. But then again, that's not too large if you try to buy two boxes that handle all of this, too.
