Getting down and dirty, we'll look at memory bandwidth more closely in a simple but effective Quake 3 Arena Time Demo run. Although, this benchmark is out dated for video card testing, it does showcase system memory bandwidth quite well.

 Now this is more of what we were expecting to see with this line-up of boards in the comparison. The i850E/RDRAM board takes the lead here but not by much actually. 5 fps when you are looking at a total of 275, really is only about 2% differential. What was impressive to us was how the Asus P4PE held up so strong in this test versus the RDRAM based system. The Intel D845GEBV2 also puts up respectable numbers within about 3-4% of the i850E. Finally, the SiS648 is showing it still needs a little work on its memory bandwidth optimization. Once again the i845PE driven Asus board impressed us wholeheartedly by taking this benchmark and leaving even the i850E/RDRAM setup behind. Actually, all of the Intel based boards here were in a virtual dead heat but a "W" is a "W" no matter how you count it, and the Asus P4PE put it up on the scoreboard. Comanche 4 testing shows a repeat performance. The SiS648 trails the pack again but the i845PE stands up tall against its RDRAM powered sibling. We've said it time and again, the numbers don't lie. This is great performance from a chipset and memory technology that costs significantly less than any RDRAM configuration you can buy. Let's see how things hold up with a leading edge gaming engine.
