FarCry 2
DirectX Gaming Performance

Far Cry 2

Like the original, Far Cry 2 is one of the more visually impressive games to be released on the PC to date. Courtesy of the Dunia game engine developed by Ubisoft, Far Cry 2's game-play is enhanced by advanced environment physics, destructible terrain, high resolution textures, complex shaders, realistic dynamic lighting, and motion-captured animations. We benchmarked the graphics cards in this article with a fully patched version of Far Cry 2 using one of the built-in demo runs recorded in the "Ranch" map.

With VQ settings cranked all the way up, it wasn't until we tried running Far Cry 2 at the Clevo's native 1920 x 1280 resolution that we noted a measurable dip in the minimum framerates, and even then, it was more than playable. The two GPUs pack enough horsepower to keep the Clevo from becoming obsolete in the near future.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat
DirectX Gaming Performance

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat benchmark is based on of the in-game locations and includes four testing four stages of testing. These stages cycle through various weather conditions as well as time of day settings. It's also DX11 capable, though in this case, we had to run the tests in DX10 since Nvidia's GTX 285M graphics don't support the newer API. All tests were run at Ultra High settings and 4X AA.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. includes several different benchmark locales, and by far the most brutal is SunShafts. With all the eye candy cranked up, the Clevo X8100 struggled to churn out smooth framerates at 1920x1080, though other benchmarks were much more forgiving.

 Battery Life
Power Performance

The only real surprise here is that the Clevo X8100 managed to last longer than a couple of other high powered notebooks, which we attributed to the 12-cell battery. Other than that, battery life was about what we expected, and not very good. The Clevo X8100 is meant to stay tethered to a wall socket, and if you cut the cord, you'll quickly find that you've run out of juice.
