ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ - 4K, G-SYNC, And HDR Goodness
The upcoming announced at CES hits all of the right notes. Gamers crave a lot of things in a monitor -- high refresh rates, wide viewing angles, deep, rich, accurate colors, and as many pixels as possible.
The ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ has all of those bases covered. It is a 27" 4K (3840x2160 resolution) display, with a 144Hz refresh rate, support for NVIDIA's G-SYNC adaptive refresh rate tech, and to cap things off it supports HDR and a wide DCI-P3 color gamut enabled by quantum-dot technology.
We got a chance to see this display in action, side by side with an SDR display, and the difference in quality in nothing short of amazing. When displaying HDR content, imagery on the ASUS ROG Swift PG27UQ is simply on another level. Colors appear more realistic and vivid, brightly lit elements actually look like they're emitting / reflecting light properly, dark elements have deep blacks, and contrast is stark. The PG27UQ actually has a peak brightness of 1,000cd/m² and a high contrast ratio, backup up by 384 zones of dynamic backlighting, which far exceeds the capabilities of most gaming monitors. We hope to have one of these bad-boys in house soon for testing, but to truly appreciate what the Swift PG27UQ can do, you'll have to experience one first hand because the benefits of HDR, G-SYNC, and a fast refresh rate won’t come across well in pics or video on-line.
Dell UP3218K UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD Monitor - 8K Pro Display
A top-notch display is paramount to a good user experience, especially for professionals that work with high-resolution images or need ultimate color accuracy. To that end, Dell is preparing one of the very first 8K PC displays, the UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD (model UP3218K).
To put that resolution into perspective, 4K displays have a resolution of 3840x2160; this display's 8K resolution is a whopping 7680x4320, or roughly 4X the number of pixels. Cram all those pixels into a 32" panel and it works out 280 pixels per inch (PPI). While the resolution is impressive, Dell also touts impressive image quality thanks to the display's PremierColor technology, and support for 100 percent of the sRGB and Adobe RGB color gamuts. The Dell UP3218K sports nice, thin bezels all-around as well, and its base offers full height, swivel, pivot, and tilt adjustments.
The UP3218K is clearly aimed at professionals, and has a price-tag to match -- $4,999. The display goes on sale March 23rd and will be available to order direct from Dell.com. If anyone feels like buying us a few of these, please feel free.
