Up to this point, the selection of Fire TVs on Amazon in the US has been served by the likes of Toshiba, Insignia, JVC, and Pioneer. Not anymore—Amazon announced last month that it was debuting its own brand Fire TV models, and those sets are now available in a variety of sizes spanning 43-75 inches at aggressive price points. And they're already on sale, too. Having more options is always a good thing, but can also be confusing. That's especially true in this case, since the Fire TV branding encompasses a range of devices, including set-top boxes, streaming sticks, and multiple TV lines. As it pertains to the latter, Amazon adds two more to the mix—Omni Series and 4-Series, both... Read more...

In August, there were several reports that Amazon's New World MMO, which was in beta at the time, had a penchant for killing EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics cards. Considering that the cards retail for $1,499 and can sell for nearly $3,000 due to shortages, that's a lot of money going up in smoke. While the first fingers were pointed at the game itself, EVGA eventually raised its hand to admit that "poor workmanship" with some solder points surrounding the MOSFET circuits were responsible cooking GeForce RTX 3090 GPUs. New World is now out of beta and drawing large queues as gamers clamor to experience the game. Unfortunately, it appears that the game isn't done with killing GPUs, according to... Read more...
If you’re in the market for storage for a wide range of devices, Amazon is currently running a sweet promotion on SanDisk and Western Digital products. Depending on your needs, the discounts come in as low as 20 percent and can hit as high as 52 percent. The biggest discount can be found on the SanDisk 1TB Ultra microSDXC card. This is a UHS-1 compliant device that offers read speeds at up to 120MB/sec. You can use these cards in tablets, laptops, camera, or smartphones (even though the microSDXC slot seem to be going the way of the headphone jack these days). The card is typically priced at $229.99 but is discounted by 52 percent to $109.99 with free shipping (and returns). If you can... Read more...
It seems Microsoft has been hard at work on not only Windows 11, but also revamping and opening up the Microsoft Store to be able to include even more functionality for its customers. This will no doubt be advantageous to Windows users as the new Microsoft Store is set to launch alongside Windows 11 on October 5th. Perhaps the biggest news is that Microsoft is opening its doors to other storefronts making them discoverable within the Microsoft Store itself. This falls in line with Microsoft’s commitment to being an "open Store for an open platform." Epic and Amazon have already announced that they will be making their storefronts accessible as part of Microsoft's newfound generosity.... Amazon’s New World may already be one of the most popular games of the year, but many players are struggling to actually play the game. Queue times have been prohibitively long. Thankfully, Amazon has put forward a solution. Amazon will be adding several worlds to their New World servers to cut down on wait times. New World players complained yesterday that they were being told they would need to wait days to play the game. Other players were unable to join the queue and players who experienced bugs were often forced to restart and rejoin the long queue. The issue initially impacted primarily players in the European Union, but began to affect players worldwide as each server went... Read more...
Amazon held a virtual event today to announce a pile of new products. This is the second year running that the invite-only event has been online-only. Historically, Amazon hosts a little meet-and-greet to showcase its new stuff. Last year, we saw a lot of wacky stuff, including the Luna gaming service, Ring's until-today-absent Always Home Cam, and refreshed Fire Sticks and Eero routers. This year, Amazon has more goodies for devout Alexa believers. The Echo Show 15 is essentially an interactive, networked version of a smart picture frame. It's intended to be hung on the wall where users will be identified with "Visual ID" before using its 15.6" 1080p display to do all the usual things the Echo... Read more...
Amazon’s much anticipated video game New World has officially arrived. Players are eager to get their hands on the game after experiencing several delays and rounds of beta testing. Unfortunately, many New World players are either waiting a very long time or are unable to get in the queue at all. The complaints are primarily from New World players in the European Union where the game launched at 8am CEST. The launch capacity for each server has reportedly been capped at 2,000 players. For those lucky enough to get into the queue, anticipated wait times are being measured in days instead of hours. Other players have been unable to make it past the game's menu.  Some players also have... Read more...
Samsung just launched its Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic last month, but there is already a pretty hefty discount available on the former. The Galaxy Watch 4 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, but the smaller size sees the biggest discount (percentage-wise) today at Amazon. The Galaxy Watch 4 (40mm) has an MSRP of $249.99, but Amazon is currently selling the smartwatch for $229.99. That's a $20 discount, which is already excellent for a brand-new device. However, Amazon is also throwing in a free Samsung Wireless Charger Fast Charge Pad DUO. That device alone has a retail price of $59.99, so that makes the $229.99 combo offer (a total of 25 percent off) even hotter. The Wireless... Read more...
Drivers contracted to make delivers for Amazon claim that special cameras installed in their delivery vans are unfairly dinging them for road violations that did not occur, resulting in loss of extra income and other bonuses that they might otherwise be eligible to receive. Amazon, meanwhile, says the cameras have led to fewer accidents and less instances of distracted driving. Amazon earlier this year partnered with Netradyne to install the camera systems into Amazon-branded delivery vans. Called "driveri," these are more than simple cameras. They're quad-camera systems with four HD lenses, including one that faces the road, another that faces the driver, and two side lenses that collectively... Read more...
Kindle devices seemingly take a backseat to the Fire family of tablets when it comes to “flashiness,” but Amazon clearly hasn’t forgotten about its e-readers. Today, the company announced a major design overhaul for the Kindle Paperwhite, the first such update in three years. Amazon started its refresh with a larger e-ink display, which now measures 6.8 inches. The online retail giant claims that the display is now brighter than ever (10 percent uplift at maximum brightness levels compared to the previous generation) and is surrounded by smaller 10.2mm bezels. The display still provides 300 ppi for crisp text and is glare-free to improve legibility in a wide variety of lighting... Read more...
Amazon is currently running a big sale on popular Razer laptops, and the discounts ring in at as little as $350 to over $800. Not surprisingly, the most significant discounts are reserved for high-end gaming models, which already feature sky-high MSRPs due to their powerful internals. Starting things off is the Razer Blade 15 Advanced (2020 Model), which comes with an 8-core Intel Core i7-10875H processor, 16GB of RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q discrete GPU. The potent GPU fuels a 15.6-inch Full HD display with a blazing fast 300Hz refresh rate, which is a boon for FPS gamers (among other genres). A 512GB SSD is included in the mix, and you'll find a keyboard with per-key Razer... Read more...
Samsung recently launched its third-generation foldable smartphones – the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 -- and they’re very impressive. The cheapest of the two is the Galaxy Z Flip 3, priced from $999 compared to the $1,449 launch price of its predecessor. Even though the smartphone has only been on the market for a few weeks, Amazon is already discounting the Galaxy Z Flip 3 by a fair amount. Amazon’s discount comes in at $75, which takes the smartphone down to just $924.99 with free shipping. The discounted pricing is available for Phantom Black, Lavender, Cream, and Green colors.
