Apex Legends seemingly came out of nowhere and took the gaming scene by storm, further underscoring how insanely popular the battle royale genre is right now. Even though there was some strategic planning to generate excitement around Apex Legends when it first came out—publisher Electronic Arts paid some notable streamers to play the game at the outset—developer Respawn Entertainment says the launch still exceeded its expectations. Continued success also means a full commitment of time and resources, and so plans to hash out another Titanfall game have now taken a backseat. "Regarding other games in development at Respawn, it is important to understand that there are entirely separate... Read more...
Things were looking bleak for EA ahead of Respawn launching Apex Legends earlier this year. Apex single-handedly turned EA's sagging stock around, and the game had 10 million players in only three days. Despite the standout title, EA has announced that it has laid off hundreds of workers across its marketing, publishing, and operations segments. EA says that in those segments of its business a total of 350 workers have been let go. The layoffs are part of EA's plan to ramp down its presence in Japan and Russia, but it is unclear if the eliminated positions are only in those countries. EA is clear that while it is ramping down its presence in those countries, it will find different ways to... Read more...
Apex Legends is extremely popular at the moment. EA and Respawn Entertainment have hit it out of the park with the game and have been focusing heavily on making it more fair, by handing out permanent hardware bans to PC cheaters and expanding the game with new content. Recent new content included a Legend called Octane, and asset leaks have hinted that the roster will continue to grow with ten new Legends in the works. A Respawn community manager called Jayfresh_Respawn on Reddit has offered up an update for PC gamers regarding crashes that have been frustrating some users in the community. The post on Reddit states that in the patch that was launched Tuesday, an improved method of capturing... Read more...
Apex Legends has been one of the most popular games around since it launched and shows no signs of letting up. Rumors have been swirling that a new character and a Battle Pass were set to launch for the service. A new character called Octane leaked via the Origin Store and another asset leak hints that the character roster will eventually grow by ten. Rumors about Octane have been confirmed with the launch of the character along with the first battle pass. Octane is a Legend that is based on speed, gaining benefits from moving fast to attack and flank enemies. Octane has three abilities with one passive, one activated with a button press, and an ultimate that takes time to charge. The active... Read more...

One thing that will ruin a game as quick as any bug are prolific cheaters that make the entire gameplay experience unbearable. Respawn Entertainment is working hard to curb cheating in Apex Legends. As cheaters evolve to exploit the game, Respawn has been swinging the banhammer to crush them as quickly as possible. So far, that banhammer has crushed 355,000 cheaters. Respawn is taking things a bit further and is now reportedly issuing permanent hardware bans against PC gamers who are caught cheating. Word of the permanent bans first surfaced on Reddit with alleged screenshots from cheating forums where players were complaining about being unable to rejoin the game after being hit with an account... Online multiplayer gaming is a beautiful thing, and thanks to high-speed Internet connections, it is a phenomenon that has transformed modern day gameplay. It's why battle royale shooters can exist, and be so popular. Unfortunately, cheating is a real problem, and the only ones who like a cheater are those who are profiting from them. This has created quite the headache for developers like Respawn Entertainment. Apex Legends is the hot new battle royale shooter that has attracted 50 million players in just one month. By all accounts, it is a hit franchise for publisher Electronic Arts, which stands to rake in money hand over fist the way Epic Games does with its also-popular Fortnite game. In... Read more...
Respawn Entertainment developed one of the hottest games of recent memory, that being Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale shooter that is presumably proving to be a lucrative franchise for publisher Electronic Arts. Popular streamers such as Tyler "Ninja" Blevins deserve a tip of the hat for hopping on board, and it appears they were paid handsomely for their time. How handsomely? According to Reuters, EA shelled out a cool million bucks (or thereabouts) for Ninja to stream Apex Legends on launch day. While that is an obscene amount of money for a day's 'work' (play), it underscores how much cash these types of games can generate through in-game purchases, and why publishers would be willing... Apex Legends has been a massive success for EA having surged to over 50 million players in a month, and the game is putting immense pressure on its battle royale rival, Fortnite. A leak earlier this week claimed that a new character was coming to the game called Octane. And another fresh leak via Origin, the EA game store, has given weight to that previous rumor with the same original art for the Octane character on the landing page. The Origin leak didn't tip a specific launch date for Octane, or the associated Season 1 Battle Pass for the game. However, if the landing page is being tweaked and readied, the launch must be close. Some expected that the battle pass would land yesterday, March... Read more...
Apex Legends has stormed onto the scene and asserted itself as a hugely popular battle royale shooter, hitting 1 million players in just 8 hours after launch, and leaping to 50 million players in its first month. Inevitable leaks come with that level of popularity, and as such, the names of potentially 10 upcoming character additions might now be known. It was already leaked last month that developer Respawn Entertainment would be adding new legends to the game, eight in all. Now, however, a list of player cards has attached names to those upcoming characters, along with two others that were not previously known. That brings the total number so far up to 10 new characters. The names include Rampart,... Read more...
Apex Legends is one of those super-rare games that seems to come along out of nowhere, and then strikes the right chord with millions upon millions of gamers a mere month after its launch -- over 50 million gamers and counting, in fact. In 2019, it certainly helps to have the phrases "battle royale" and "free-to-play" tied to a game, but developer Respawn has proven once again that "free" games can be great. It takes a good game to hook gamers, and take on Goliaths in the industry, like Fortnite. There are many ways developers of successful games can prolong that success. Actually listening to the concerns of the fan base is key, as is taking care of any bugs or community issues within the game... Read more...

Apex Legends has been a dominant force in the gaming scene ever since it launched in early February, quickly amassing 50 million players in just a month (far outpacing the performance of the current battle royale champion, Fortnite). With that being said, gamers are looking for the "Next Big Thing" with Apex Legends, and according to new report, Respawn Entertainment is ready to deliver. The first bit of news is the report that the game's first Battle Pass is expected to drop next week; March 12th to be exact. At this point, it's unknown what that battle pass will entail, or how long it will last. And more importantly, we have no clue how much it will cost at this time. “The... Read more...
Do you hear that, folks? That’s the sound of potential growing concern over at Epic Games headquarters in Cary, NC. Respawn Entertainment co-founder Vince Zampella took to Twitter this morning to announce that Apex Legends has surpassed 50 million active users during its first month of availability. That is a staggering figure by any standard, and its growth is far outpacing that of Epic’s Fortnite following its debut. We knew early on that Apex Legends was going to be a bonafide hit. It was announced that 2.5 million people were engaged in the game after 24 hours, and that number hit 10 million in just three days. To put those numbers in perspective, it took Fortnite 2 weeks... Epic Games has had the most dominating video game on the market with Fortnite making vast sums of money for the developer. Recently, a new competitor has surfaced in the form of Apex Legends that is putting pressure on Fortnite to maintain its top spot in the gaming realm. Apex Legends launched, and within a week boasted 25 million players. With Apex Legends being so popular, you might expect the game to cut into the revenue that Epic Games is generating. Well, a new report claims that online revenue for Fortnite dropped 48% in January compared to December. Analytics firm SuperData claims that decline happened before Apex Legends launched. However, things aren't that bad in Epic's eyes;... Read more...
Apex Legends has taken the gaming scene by storm and is giving Fortnite some competition in the battle royale space. While the focus is on teams of three, there could be a new mode on the horizon that will feature NPCs (non-playable characters). Data miners discovered a new Spectator mode while digging through the game's files. In this mode, players would play in front of a crowd of spectator NPCs. The crowd would react to the gameplay in a variety of ways, such as roaring and cheering, busting out in chants, acting shocked, and so forth. These are the same types of reactions that real crowds have at sporting events. The reactions could be in a loop, such as repeated clapping, or be a one-time... Read more...
Apex Legends has only been out for two weeks, but the game may already soon receive a major update. Data miners have discovered the names of two possible future Apex Legends heroes and the names of their special abilities. “Octane” and “Wattson” may soon be added to the game’s limited roster. Octane will boast some sort of “Stimpack” ability. In Titanfall 2, “stims” quickly heal the user and boost their speed. Apex Legends' hero “Lifeline” is already a combat medic, so Octane’s ability may focus more on speed. Wattson will reportedly have some ability called “Tesla Trap”. Some have theorized that this character... Read more...
Cheating in multiplayer games is rampant, highly annoying, and regrettably it is largely unavoidable. The important thing is, how do the developers respond? In the case of Apex Legends, the hot new battle royale that has taken the gaming scene by storm, developer Respawn Entertainment is actively hunting down and banning cheaters, and would like your help in continuing the effort. "Cheaters suck. If you run into one, please try and capture the evidence and let us know... Even if you don’t get proof, get their ID and flag it and we can investigate the account. We have heard your feedback about a report feature in the game. I’ll just say that’s a very good idea :)," a Respawn... Read more...
Apex Legends has been a smash hit for EA and Respawn Entertainment. The game single-handedly turned EA's sagging stock around after an earnings miss when it launched earlier this month. Within eight hours of launch, the game had a million players fighting it out on the battle royal battleground. Within three days, Apex Legends had 10 million players, and now Vince Zampella is offering up new statistics on the game along while teasing some of what is coming up. According to Zampella, more than 25 million gamers have played Apex Legends since last Monday. Over the weekend the game bosted "well over" 2 million concurrent players at its peak. Zampella also talks about the creation of the thriving... Read more...
Seemingly out of nowhere, Apex Legends has taking the gaming scene by storm and is shaping up to be a formidable rival to Fortnite in the battle royale space. Since launching on February 4, Apex Legends has generated some impressive numbers, not the least of which is the total number of hours it has amassed on Twitch. At the time of this writing, Apex Legends is enjoying over 215,000 viewers on Twitch, compared to Fortnite's more than 68,000 viewers. It is the top game on Twitch right now, with League of Legends in a somewhat distant second with 140,515 viewers at this moment in time. Apex Legend has topped the charts on Twitch since it came out. In total, it has generated 11 million more total... Read more...
It's been quite the rollercoaster ride for shares of EA lately. The company saw its latest entry in its bread and butter Battlefield franchise, Battlefield V underperform, sending its stock shares plummeting. Then its subsidiary Respawn Entertainment launched Apex Legends, and it singlehandedly turned things around for EA. Apex Legends launched as a surprise earlier this month and boasted a million players within eight hours. The game then went on to bring in 10 million players in only 72 hours after launch and the title was obviously beginning to spread like wildfire among gamers. The announcement that the game had landed so many players in three days was enough to send shares... Read more...
