Samsung announced the Samsung Rugby Smart. This smartphone is made to withstand extreme conditions. In fact, the smartphone is dustproof, waterproof (it can be submerged in up to 1m of water for 30 minutes), and shock resistant. The Rugby Smart runs on Android 2.3 and features a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED touchscreen display, 4G of internal memory, and offers HSPA+ 4G connectivity. We've heard about the Motorola Droid 4 for a while now, but only recently did we get an official release date for this phone. This new smartphone will be available this Friday, February 10. As you may recall, the Motorola Droid 4 claims to be the thinnest and most powerful 4G smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard. The Droid 4 measures less than a half inch thick and features a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, a 4.0-inch qHD display, 8-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread. Samsung took the wraps off of another new smartphone in the Galaxy S line. The new Galaxy S Advance appears to be a mid-range handset that features specs that fall between the original Galaxy S and the more recent Galaxy S II. Some of the key features of the Galaxy S Advance include a dual core 1GHz processor, HSPA 14.4 Mbps connectivity, 4-inch Super AMOLED display (480x800), 768MB of RAM, up to 16GB of onboard storage, and a 5MP rear-facing camera. According to a leaked product lineup, it would appear that RIM is slimming down its product line up in order to focus resources on its next-generation BlackBerry devices that are expected in the second half of this year. Even so, we could still see two BlackBerry Curve smartphones as well as a slightly tweaked new PlayBook tablet in the next few months. The new Curve smartphones will likely be the BlackBerry Curve 9230 and the BlackBerry Curve 9320. Pantech's new dual-core smartphone and its waterproof tablet are now available through AT&T. The wireless carrier is offering a bundled deal with both the smartphone and the tablet for just $250 with a contract. Of course, you'll need the appropriate data plans for both devices. Both of these devices feature 4G LTE connectivity and run on Android. The Pantech Element features an 8-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 768. CES 2012 may be over, but Mobile World Congress is just around the corner. We're already expecting a number of big announcements in the smartphone space, with most of them surrounding the idea of quad-core handsets. Rumor has it that HTC and Samsung have some quad-core smartphones up their sleeves, and now, new information suggests LG may be joining them. It seems that there are a lot of people who aren't taking Microsoft very seriously when it comes to competing in the smartphone marketplace. However, various well-known analyst firms, including IDC, Gartner, and iSuppli, believe Windows Phone could actually overtake iOS and become the second most popular smartphone platform by 2015. The head of marketing for Windows Phone, Achim Berg, believes this prediction is conservative. Although the Droid 4 hasn't been officially released yet, that hasn't stopped Best Buy from using this upcoming phone in a promotional advertisement. A recent Reward Zone promotion shows the upcoming phone, which makes us wonder if the retailer thought the phone was going to launch this month. (Old rumors once suggested this phone would launch in December, but that hasn’t happened.) LG fans will be excited to hear that the successor to Verizon Wireless' Revolution may be on its way. A leaked press shot of the yet-to-be announced LG Spectrum has appeared. Although you can't tell much from the pictures, Pocketnow believes the phone will feature 4G LTE connectivity, a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 720p HD resolution display, and an eight megapixel camera. From the leaked press shot, it appears that the camera will protrude from the back of the device. It’s pretty clear that Google’s Android Market is growing quickly and giving Apple some competition. A recent announcement from Google sheds a little more light on the growth of this app store. This past weekend, Google said the Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads. The current growth rate is one billion app downloads per month. We've already heard about the upcoming Droid 4 smartphone, though we're still waiting on an official announcement from Motorola or Verizon Wireless. We have also heard rumblings around the web about various Xoom tablet successors. Here again, we're still waiting on an official announcement. The lack of any announcements hasn't stopped Verizon Wireless from showing off some of its upcoming goods, however. Yesterday, we told you about the HOT new upcoming DROID smartphone, the Droid 4. Now, new details are surfacing that suggest this new phone (which hasn't even been formally announced) could be available as early as next week. According to Droid-Life, the DROID 4 could make its debut on December 8. Another HOT new smartphone, the Galaxy Nexus, is also said to be launching on the 8th.
