Are we finally seeing a turning of the tides for PC sales? Well according to new analysis from both Gartner and IDC, it appears so given the promising sales numbers tallied for 2019.  According to IDC, global PC shipments grew by 2.7 percent for 2019, taking the total tally to 266.7 million. Gartner didn't show as much growth year-over-year, but still marked down a 0.6 percent increase for 2019 for a total of 261.2 million units shipped for the year. Although the percentage increase and total shipment numbers differ, the consensus from both firms is that the global PC market witnessed its first year-over-year sales gain since 2011. So, what exactly is the reason for this uptick in sales... Read more...
We had boots on the ground again at the 2020 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, and we of course ran across a number of stellar products that will hopefully be making their way to consumers this year. Even though we saw literally hundreds of exciting new tech products and gear at CES 2020 this year, a few stood out that were near and dear to our hearts, and we think will be for you as well.  This year's CES was punctuated with lots of burgeoning new technologies from AI bots, to 8K TVs and all new mobile PC platforms. In fact, we were encouraged and impressed at the pace of innovation this year, especially in the PC and gaming arenas. To be honest, sometimes CES shows can be real... Read more...
So you slept through the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, and now wish you could travel back in time? Forget the DeLorean—the price of plutonium is off the charts these days—because there are still bargains out there. Over at Dell, you can score discounts on several different gaming PCs, including Alienware-brand desktops and laptops. One of the deals I find especially intriguing is for a decked out Alienware Aurora gaming desktop for $1,564.99 (save $765 over list price). At the heart of this system is a 9th generation Intel Core i7-9700K processor (8-core/8-thread, 3.6GHz to 4.9GHz, 12MB L3 cache) paired with a brawny NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super graphics card. Those components... Read more...
The Alienware Concept UFO wasn't the only wild design on display from Dell this week at CES 2020. The company also let loose two additional concepts that are seemingly closer to being actual production devices than the admittedly cool Concept UFO. The two new entries are called the Concept Ori and Concept Duo, and the most intriguing is the former. Concept Ori looks similar in design to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold that we told you about yesterday, and features a folding 13.3-inch QHD+ OLED display. The display is made of plastic and is one continuous piece that folds right in the middle. Concept Ori When folded, Concept Ori is highly portable, making it easier to fit into... Read more...
Dell has unveiled a new laptop that starts at $799 and is called the Dell G5 15 SE. The machine has third-gen AMD Ryzen Renoir-H Mobile CPUs paired up with a discrete Radeon RX 5600M graphics card. The G5 15 SE supports SmartShift for automatic, dynamic, power shifting between the CPU and the GPU for improved performance over past generations of the machine. The G5 also runs AMD Radeon software to dynamically regulate framerates, reduce latency, and sharpen images for gamers. The display is a 15.6-inch Full HD unit, while an optional 144Hz display supports FreeSync. Dell also offers an optional WASD 4-zone RGB backlit keyboard that is customizable via the Alienware Command Center. That command... Read more...
Handheld gaming is something that many of us take for granted these days, be it with portable console or a quick Fortnite session with our smartphones. So why couldn't we have that same experience with fully-fledged PC games, albeit with more powerful hardware under the hood than what's fueling your smartphone?. That's a question that the folks at Dell's Alienware division asked, and the result is the Concept UFO prototype, which looks like a chunkier version of the Nintendo Switch with a more premium aluminum-clad chassis. The Concept UFO consists of the main unit which contains the display, and two Joy-Con style controllers that attach on either side of the main unit with a magnetic rail system.... Read more...
Yesterday morning, we first brought you word of Dell's latest XPS 13 ultraportable, which has been completely redesigned for 2020. Dell has hit it out of the park this time around with a device that is smaller, thinner, and lighter while at the same time packing in a slightly larger 13.4-inch 16:10 display. Needless to say, we were eager to get our hands on the new laptop, and we've got video footage of the XPS 13 in its full glory embedded below: It's one thing to see the XPS 13 in renders, but the real-life footage gives you a good idea at how tiny the bezels are with the “Four-Sided” InfinityEdge display. Even with the extremely tiny bezels all around, Dell was still able... Read more...
Earlier this morning, Dell announced its all-new XPS 13 ultraportable, but that's not all that the company has to offer. It has also pulled the wraps off the brand-new Latitude 9510 family, which is a business-class 15-inch notebook/2-in-1 that is powered by Intel 10th generation Core processors. With the Latitude 9510, Dell has further trimmed the bezels, giving users fewer visual distractions to the vibrant 15-inch InfinityEdge display. Since the Latitude 9510 is available in traditional laptop and 2-in-1 configurations, there are two display options presented to customers. The former gets a 15-inch FHD anti-glare panel, while the latter features a 15-inch FHD touch display covered... Read more...

It features a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms response times, IPS technology, and AMD Radeon FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility. The Dell XPS 13 has always earned high marks here at HotHardware for its excellent all-around performance and highly portable design. However, the folks at Dell aren't content with the status-quo, and have launched a completely redesigned XPS 13 that delivers all of the performance that we've come to expect within a thinner, lighter, and smaller chassis. We have to kick off the discussion by talking about the display. Even though the new XPS 13 is smaller all around, Dell was able to equip the laptop with a larger 13.4-inch InfinityEdge display (16:10 aspect ratio). Actually, it's a 4-sided InfinityEdge display if we get technical. That means that the bezels are minimal and the XPS... Read more...
Dell's XPS 13 family is split into two main product lines; 2-in-1 convertible notebooks and traditional clamshell-style laptops. It wasn't too long ago that we looked at the latest 2-in-1 with Intel's 10th-generation Core i7-1065G7. That machine was a thin, light, flexible beauty and a great performer, thanks in no small part to its improved graphics capability with the Intel 10th Gen Core series of CPUs. So when Dell offered up the latest XPS 13 clamshell version with a bright 4K display and Intel's Comet Lake 6-core 10th Gen CPU on tap, we just had to kick the tires a bit.  For those not in the know, 10th-generation Intel Core mobile processors have two very different CPU families. The... Read more...
This is one of the best times of the year to build or buy a new PC, whether it's a desktop configuration or a banging laptop. That's because Black Friday is in full swing. It's a particularly strategic time to buy a premium system, as Black Friday discounts can take the sting out of their premium price tags. As such, you can hop over to Dell today and save $750 on an Alienware m15 gaming laptop. The listed "estimated value" on this configuration is $2,149.99. That's a bit optimistic on Dell's part—the list price is not always the actual price—but you're still getting a strong setup for the money. When the discount goes live at 12:00 pm ET (9:00 am PT) today, the Alienware m15 highlighted... Read more...
Earlier this year, we reported that Frank Azor -- who was one of the original co-founders of Alienware and served as VP and GM for Dell's XPS, G Series and Alienware gaming brands -- was exiting the company to take position at AMD. Today, we have received confirmation from multiple reliable sources that Azor's official replacement has been named, and she is none other than Vivian Lien of ASUS. For those that have been around the enthusiast computing and gaming community for a while, Vivian should be familiar to you. She most recently served as the Global Head of Marketing for ASUS Gaming. Vivian has been with ASUS since 2007, where she has become a powerhouse presence in the marketing... Read more...
Intel had a deathgrip on high-end gaming PCs for years while AMD's processors struggled to provide enough gaming performance to be competitive in the high end enthusiast tier. The tide has recently turned, however, and this summer AMD's Ryzen 3000 series of Zen 2-based 7nm processors took the world by storm. As a result of this monumental shift, Dell's gaming products division, Alienware has more recently started offering AMD's CPUs in its desktop lineup for the first time since the glory days of AMD's Phenom II. Previously we took a look at a Threadripper-powered Alienware Area-51 desktop, but on the table today we have a crazy-powerful configuration of the company's all-new Alienware Aurora... Read more...
