Dell is making a bid for business customers in search of a premium Chromebook with its newly launched Latitude 7410 Chromebook Enterprise, a 14-inch laptop (or 2-in-1, if you prefer to call it that) co-developed with Intel as part of the Project Athena innovation program. It offers a 4K display, long battery life, and a host of interesting features. "This is not just another Chromebook," said Rahul Tikoo, senior vice president, Commercial Product Group, Dell Technologies. "Our latest Latitude Chromebook Enterprise is designed equal parts for employees and IT managers adopting Chrome OS in the enterprise. Employees will appreciate its sleek design and collaboration features that help them navigate... Read more...

Wnen we reviewed the Alienware m15 R2 last year, we noted that Dell had "not yet circumvented the laws of physics" to allow a potent gaming laptop to keep temps totally in check, with so much high-end hardware underneath the hood. Simply put, it could get hot under load. It seems Dell has tackled the challenge with aplomb, however, as this year's Alienware m15 R3 apparently runs much cooler, and does it without a major redesign to the chassis. In our own testing of last year's model, the GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q inside our test system did actually keep potentially toasty temps at bay, by never jumping past 75C at load. But on the CPU side, the Core i7-9750H in our test configuration got pretty... Read more...
If you’re the owner of the recently released Dell XPS 17 9700, you may have noticed some issues with regards to charging when running CPU intensive tasks. Most would expect that a laptop would drain its battery when you’re not plugged in to a charger, but new XPS 17 9700 owners are experiencing battery drain while actually charging. The issue was first noticed by the folks at Notebookcheck while playing The Witcher 3 at 1080p resolution. The XPS 17 9700 comes with a 91 WHr battery, and the publication charged the battery to 100 percent and left it attached to its 130W wall charger before starting the game. Once they started playing the game, it was noted that... Read more...

Dell has rolled out what is being hailed as the most powerful XPS system ever built. The new XPS Desktop is powered by 10th generation Intel Core processors up to a Core i9. Graphics options include up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. While it's easy to think of XPS computers as aimed at gamers only, Dell says that the XPS Desktop is ideal for any hardware-intensive task, creative workflows, and virtual reality. One key feature of the new desktop is that it puts the powerful hardware into a smaller form factor than previous generations. The last XPS Desktop had a 24-liter chassis while the new desktop has a 19-liter chassis. Despite the smaller form factor, the machine still has a tool-less... Read more...
Remember when Coca-Cola reformulated its popular soft drink in the mid 1980s? The so-called New Coke formula barely lasted a few months before it failed and the original was brought back. The company already had a good thing on its hands and it was a valuable real-world lesson in not trying to reinvent the wheel when the one you have spins well. On the surface, soft drinks and laptops like Dell's new for 2020 XPS 15 9500 don't have anything in common, so why bring it up? Generally speaking, this concept also applies to what Dell has done with its XPS 15 series of laptops, or not done, as the case might be. The past two iterations of the Dell XPS 15 (2019) and XPS 15 (2018) models earned... Read more...
We’ve already seen updates to Dell’s high-end Alienware gaming PCs, and now it’s time for the company to pay some attention to its mainstream G-Series laptops and desktops. The company today announced the new G7 in both 15-inch and 17-inch flavors along with the G5 desktop. The G7 laptop family is available with one of three 10th generation Intel Comet Lake-H processors: the Core i5-10300H, Core i7-10750H, or the Core i9-10885H. Up to 32GB of DDR4-2933 memory can be installed, along with up to a 1TB PCIe SSD. A plethora of graphics options are available ranging from a GeForce GTX 1650 Ti to a GeForce RTX 2070 with Max-Q. Those GPUs can drive one of two Full HD display... Read more...
How many times are we going to spy leaked benchmarks for Intel's upcoming Tiger Lake processors? At least one more time, apparently. Once again, the unreleased Core i7-1165G7 has made a cameo in a benchmark database, this time by hitching a ride on an upgraded Dell Inspiron 7506 2-in-1 system that is also not yet available (as configured). It is actually a pair of benchmark leaks that give us yet another glimpse of the Core i7-1165G7, along with a Core i7-1135G7, both spotted by Twitter user APISAK. The first one comes by way of a UserBenchmark database entry. Have a look... Source: APISAK (Twitter) via UserBenchmark According to the benchmark entry, the Core i7-1165G7 is a 4-core/8-thread processor... Read more...
Dell’s premium XPS family of notebooks is growing, literally. The company recently announced the all-new XPS 17, and as the name implies, this new Dell laptop features a spacious – and gorgeous – 17-inch display. It also features the updated design language introduced with the company’s redesigned XPS 13 9380, and the new 2020 XPS 15 9500 carries that DNA as well. A 17-inch laptop may sound cumbersome to some folks that might travel a lot with their notebook. Fortunately, Dell did more than simply scale up the previous generation XPS 15. The new design language features a taller 16:10 aspect ratio and virtually eliminates the bottom bezel. As a result, the XPS 17 is less... Read more...
If you're currently running a PC with a Kaby Lake-G processor onboard, we've got some bad news for you. It appears that both Intel and AMD have missed the mark when it comes to graphics driver support. If you recall, Kaby Lake-G was a rather breakthrough (and unexpected) product developed together by two fierce rivals -- AMD and Intel -- which paired a Kaby Lake processor with a Radeon RX Vega GPU on a single multi-chip module package (MCM). Back in October 2019, Intel announced that it was discontinuing these 8th generation "hybrid" processors, stating, "Intel is refocusing its product portfolio. Our 10th gen Intel Core processors with Iris Plus graphics are built on... Read more...
Recently, Dell introduced a new and impressive notebook to the market aimed at gamers, called the G5 15 SE. One of the key features of that gaming notebook is AMD's new SmartShift technology. Any AMD fans who are hoping that technology would land in other brands or models of laptops may be disappointed to hear that Dell has the exclusive on that technology until 2021. But what's so special about SmartShift? The AMD Ryzen 4000 family of processors were unveiled at CES 2020, and one of the more exciting technologies that the CPUs enable, when paired with an AMD Radeon GPU, is SmartShift. The technology pools the thermal and power budget for the GPU and CPU, and doles out those resources depending... Read more...
Dell’s XPS family of laptops is familiar territory for us here at HotHardware, as they have continually presented as premium products that offer some best mainstream laptop experiences in the market. The company recently unveiled a complete redesign of its XPS 15 and reintroduced the XPS 17, both of which now feature 16:10 displays maxing out at 3840x2400 with super thin InfinityEdge bezels on all four sides now, including the bottom. The result is a very form factor-efficient design that looks spectacular. Luckily, we have a brand-new XPS 17 in-house, and we’re giving it a thorough workout through our benchmark regimen. We’re not quite ready to give you our complete review... Read more...
When we reviewed the Dell G5 15 SE, an all-AMD gaming laptop that features an AMD Ryzen 7 4800H processor and a Navi-based Radeon RX 5600M, we didn't have a chance to dive into integrated graphics performance. The gaming battery life with powerful discrete graphics left something to be desired of course—the system lasted just an hour on battery with a gaming workload—but bypassing the discrete GPU should give a bit more time away from the wall socket. Folks wanted to know how this integrated AMD GPU performs, and come to think of it, so did we. So now it's time to find out.  If you haven't already seen our in-depth performance review and video rundown, we'll summarize a bit here.... Read more...
AMD is in an enviable position in the gaming laptop world. Not only does the red team arguably produce some of the fastest mainstream mobile CPUs around in its Ryzen 4000 series, there's also formidable graphics horsepower in the same camp. As a result, AMD can control the whole platform, hardware and driver stack in a PC with its CPU, GPU, and accompanying chipset, if a manufacturer chooses to use those components. The first of these gaming laptops to hit the lab with an all-AMD bent comes from Dell. The G5 15 SE launches today with a feature set, performance target, and price point that makes for a very attractive solution for gamers on the go. Because of its single-vendor hardware configuration,... Read more...
Dell is getting down to business with its latest product refresh. Hot on the heels of Intel attaching its vPro platform to its 10th generation Core "Comet Lake" processors, Dell has come out new Latitude 9000 series business laptops and Precision 5000 mobile workstations that both offer vPro as an option, among other upgrades. Starting with the Latitude 9000 series, these are "ultra-premium" laptops and 2-in-1 devices featuring machined and brushed aluminum designs. Dell bills these as the "world's most intelligent business PCs with built-in AI," which is in reference to the Dell Optimizer utility. "Dell Optimizer uses built-in AI and Intel Adaptix technology to learn how you typically use your... Read more...

We’ve already covered Alienware’s new Area-51m R3 and m15/m17 R3 gaming laptop releases, and now it’s time to shift focus to their desktop sibling. We’re of course talking about the Aurora desktop, which is aimed squarely at the eSports market. Liquid cooling – for the processor – has long been a staple of Alienware desktops. However, the 2020 edition of the Aurora is bringing a first for company: liquid cooled graphics cards. The Aurora’s PCIe liquid cooling solution is available with its GeForce RTX 2080 graphics option, and promises a further 19.5 percent temperature decrease along with a 69.2 percent decrease in noise reduction compared... We've already brought you news concerning new members to Dell's XPS family, but there's also a lot of movement going on over at the company's Alienware gaming division. Alienware has announced refreshes of its desktop replacement Area-51m R2 gaming laptop and the m15/m17 R3 gaming laptops. Area-51m R2 Starting off with the big daddy Area-51m, this beast of a desktop replacement laptop isn't rocking 10th generation Comet Lake-H mobile processors. Instead, it's using desktop class Comet Lake-S processors, up to a Core i9-10900K (3.7GHz base, 5.3GHz Thermal Velocity Boost).  Given its desktop replacement status, you won't be surprised to find a mammoth 17-inch display here and Tobii... Earlier this year, Dell gave its popular XPS 13 a full redesign with slimmer InfinityEdge display bezels, 10th Gen Intel Ice Lake processors and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity. Since that launch, we've seen leaked images and specs for the XPS 15 and the return of the XPS 17. However today, Dell is getting official with these two new XPS family members that complete the line-up refresh. Starting off with the XPS 15, the specifications for this Dell laptop match the leaked specs that we've seen for the past month. That means that there's a 15.6-inch panel (16:10 aspect ratio) that is available in FHD+ (1920x1200) or 4K UHD+ (3840x2400) resolutions. That panel is backed by either Intel... Read more...
Earlier this month, we got our first look at the 2020 editions of the XPS 15 and XPS 17 laptop, which will be featuring 10thgeneration Intel Core (Comet Lake-H) processors. Today, we’re learning much more information about the two laptops, which look to be two formidable competitors that bracket the current 16-inch Apple MacBook Pro in size. The XPS 15 features a 15.6-inch Infinity Edge display that can be had in either FHD+ (1920x1200) or UHD+ (3840x2400) resolutions (16:10 aspect ratio). Base systems get a Core i5-10400H (4 cores/8 threads, 4.5GHz boost), while flagship models are powered by the Core i9-10885H (8 cores/16 threads, 5.3GHz boost). You can opt for integrated Intel... Microsoft has long offered the Your Phone app for Windows 10 PCs, which allows smartphone users to send and receive a text message from their computer and share files, among other features. However, some of the best features available for Android users are unavailable for iPhone users. Dell updated its software last month that beat Microsoft to the punch bringing similar functionality for iPhone users, while expanding Android support. The catch is that Dell Mobile Connect was only meant to run on Dell computers. If you were using a different manufacturer's Windows 10 PC, it was possible in the past to run the app by sideloading it and manually installing drivers. Whether or not that worked varied...
