Fortnite may soon be coming to a theater near you. A recent report noted that Epic Games is considering producing a Fortnite feature film. They are reportedly developing an entertainment division that will "[focus] on scripted video programming," with the purpose of such a division being to help diversify Epic Games’ brand. Unfortunately, there is little other information about the Fortnite film or any of their other projects at this time. However, there are some possible hints about  who may be involved in the entertainment division. Epic Games has already hired three Lucasfilm veterans. Jason McGatlin was the vice president of Physical Production at Lucasfilm and is now president... Read more...
As expected, Apple is attempting to appeal a judge's recent ruling that could allow developers to effectively bypass the company's App Store fees, by permitting them to include in-app buttons linking to outside payment systems. Apple's appeal asks for a delay on the injunction that would allow this, potentially pushing back the implementation of buttons for outside-app payments by years. The appeal elicited a comical diss by Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney. Background On Apple And Epic Games Legal Battle As things stand now, app developers generally pay Apple a 30 percent commission on apps sold in the App Store, as well as purchases made from within their apps. For this reason, some companies like... Read more...

It seems Microsoft has been hard at work on not only Windows 11, but also revamping and opening up the Microsoft Store to be able to include even more functionality for its customers. This will no doubt be advantageous to Windows users as the new Microsoft Store is set to launch alongside Windows 11 on October 5th. Perhaps the biggest news is that Microsoft is opening its doors to other storefronts making them discoverable within the Microsoft Store itself. This falls in line with Microsoft’s commitment to being an "open Store for an open platform." Epic and Amazon have already announced that they will be making their storefronts accessible as part of Microsoft's newfound generosity.... A court ruling earlier this month wasn't a decisive victory for either Apple or Epic Games regarding the pair's legal battle over App Store payments. While Epic scored a win in allowing app developers to choose alternative payment methods for in-app purchases, it also had to pay Apple 30 percent of its revenues for directing iOS users to the Epic Direct Payment System. In addition, presiding Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers found that Apple was not behaving as an illegal monopolist. Despite the "win" on in-app purchases, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney defiantly stated shortly after the ruling, "Fortnite will return to the iOS App Store when and where Epic can offer in-app payment in fair competition with... Fortnite developer Epic Games filed lawsuits against Apple and Google last year to force changes in how both companies control the method of payment within their respective app stores. Epic claimed at the time that it wasn't just taking this course of action for its sake but also for smaller developers forced to hand over a significant portion of their in-app revenue to Apple/Google. Today, Epic scored a significant legal victory, as presiding Judge Yvonne Gonzalez-Rogers issued a permanent injunction in the highly-watched Epic v. Apple case. The ruling shut down Apple's "anti-steering" policy, which prevents app developers from providing links to other forms of payment for in-app purchases.... Read more...
“It's not a lake-- it’s an ocean.” Fans of Alan Wake will be excited to hear that a remastered version of the game will be available this fall. The game will be published by Epic Games and will be available on the Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and PC. The remastered version includes the original game as well as the expansions Special One: The Signal and Special Two: The Writer. There is not an exact release date yet, but we would imagine it will be available before the holiday season. Sam Lake, Remedy Entertainment’s Creative Director, noted that the original game has not changed much. Fans will mostly notice a... Read more...
If you like shooting, driving, and creating overall mayhem in an open-world environment – in a game that isn't Grand Theft Auto V – we have some excellent news for you. The Epic Games Store has Saints Row: The Third Remastered available free to download for a limited time. Saints Row games have always been a somewhat outlandish, comical, and over-the-top counterpart to the Grand Theft Auto franchise. However, it has its own following of gamers that have stuck with the series from the beginning. Saints Row debuted in 2006, while Saints Row 2 came two years later. Saints Row: The Third arrived in 2011, while the remastered version landed on March 5th, 2021, for the PC. Here's how the... Read more...
Game Science, the developer behind Black Myth: Wukong, announced it is enhancing the visual fidelity of the upcoming game by upgrading from Unreal Engine 4 to Unreal Engine 5, and a trailer showing off some of the new visuals looks absolutely spectacular. It also happens to be the first look at an Unreal Engine 5 game enhanced with NVIDIA's Deep Learning Super Sampling technology. There's no mention of the settings or other finer grain details, but at its core, DLSS is a fancy-pants upscaling algorithm that taps into the wonders of artificial intelligence (AI). NVIDIA really hit its stride with the latest implementation—see our are DLSS 2.0 quality and performance evaluation for more thoughts... Read more...
A couple of the developers behind the popular Among Us game are not real happy with Epic Games right now, after releasing its Fortnite Imposters Limited Time Mode (LTM) this week. As the saying goes, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and there is a lot of imitation in the video game space. But even the map in Fortnite's new mode is similar. It's not identical in every aspect. Fortnite Impostors supports up to ten players, including eight Agents tasked with maintaining The Bridge, and two Imposters who try to overtake it. In contrast, Among Us can be played with four to 15 players, and up to three imposters, who are randomly chosen at the beginning of each round. "Work together to root... Read more...
Just as the sun rises and sets, Epic Games has put another game up for grabs. Anyone can now get open-world RPG Rebel Galaxy for free through August 19th to keep forever. Space is the final frontier and reminiscent of the Wild West in Rebel Galaxy, a game of “action-packed combat, exploration, discovery, trade, and ‘negotiation’.” Players will “battle pirates, explore anomalies, befriend aliens, scavenge battle wreckage, mine asteroids, and discover artifacts,” while choosing their path in the universe. Take a look at the trailer below to get a feel for the game:  If your interest is piqued, then you will need the following minimum specifications on a... Read more...
Late last month, Epic Games submitted an amended complaint against Google, which ended up being heavily redacted. However, it appears that Google has lifted some of the redactions, giving us a better insight into the arguments at hand, though much has still been left out. In the filing, submitted on August 5th, Epic claims that Google felt threatened by any app store other than Google Play. It was written that “Google has deliberately changed its course of conduct, erecting contractual and technological barriers that foreclose competing ways of distributing apps to Android users.” One such example of this is when Epic struck a deal with OEM OnePlus to make its games available through... Fortnite has become quite well known for its interesting and varied collaborations. Their upcoming character additions are a nod to those who are fans of classic fighting games. Fortnite players will be able to purchase Cammy White and Guile from the Street Fighter series.  Both characters and several other related items will be available for purchase on August 7th at 8pm ET. The “Guile Outfit” will include Guile’s classic army fatigues that he wore in the original Street Fighter II. The outfit will also feature a “beach-ready Glistening Guile Variant and K.O. Back Bling.” The “Cammy Outfit” includes Cammy’s original outfit, the Borealis Backer... Read more...
As we watch the Epic Games versus Apple fight continue from the sidelines, a new contender has entered the ring, it seems. Yesterday, billionaire and space mogul Elon Musk surprisingly sided with Epic Games on App Store fees on Twitter. Nearly a year ago, Apple kicked Fortnite off the App Store after Epic Games moved to circumvent Apple’s fees through a new storefront within the battle royale game. Google quickly followed suit after Epic Games tried to pull the same stunt on the Play Store with little success. Since then, there has been a back-and-forth legal battle both in and out of court between Epic Games, Apple, and Google, who all have quite a bit of funding to throw at the fight.... Read more...
Are you looking for a distraction from the world or simply a new game to play? Either way, a decent place to start is with the free games that the Epic Games Store has up for grabs, and this week looks good. Through August 5th, you can become a train engineer or conquer a robotic alien armada in a “bullet-hell” first-person shooter. MOTHERGUNSHIP MOTHERGUNSHIP is the most extreme of the two titles up for grabs this week, as it is a “bullet-hell FPS where you craft your own guns, fight huge bosses, and defeat a robotic alien armada that conquered Earth.” Players will face non-stop combat against hordes of alien machines, traps, and bosses, which must be fought... The Epic Games fight against anticompetitive Apple and Google is still alive and kicking, as Epic now filed a new complaint against Google. The update adds some redacted details about Google’s allegedly anticompetitive behavior and how Epic Games believes that Google is massaging its own statements to conceal “the full scope of Google’s anticompetitive conduct.” Of course, the filing from Epic Games opens strongly, stating that Google’s former motto of “Don’t Be Evil” is just an afterthought, and the company is “using its size to do evil upon competitors, innovators, customers, and users in a slew of markets it has grown to monopolize.”... The recently introduced Ferrari 296 GTB is a plug-in Italian hell raiser that will likely set prospective buyers back somewhere north of $300,000. That means my chances of ever owning one are next to zero. If you're in the same boat, fret not—you can at least virtually experience 819 horses pulling the sexy red wagon in Fortnite, where the Ferrari 296 GTB has cruised onto the scene as the game's first licensed vehicle. Sure, plenty of other vehicles have found their way to Fortnite, including taxis, pickup trucks, and even grocery carts. But none up to this point have been real-life, licensed vehicles. That changes right now, with the Ferrari 296 GTB having just been unlocked, provided... Read more...
Fornite was already weird before Chapter 2, Season 7 came along, focusing on an alien invasion of the island. Now, things are going one step further with the introduction of the Inflate-A-Bull, a bizarre object that lets players roll, bounce, and withstand fire while looking like a cow, alongside cow-themed quests. What exactly is going on here? The Inflate-A-Bull is a new inflatable cow suit that bestows users with “cow-like properties,” including being able to roll downhill, jump (or fall) off cliffs without damage, and withstand fire. While the suit could be popped by other players when shot, it could be an over-powered tool in the right circumstances. However, we are unsure what... Read more...
The aliens have invaded Fortnite, and it seems that they have started to abduct people from around the island. One of the Legendary challenges or “Quests” for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 7 Week 4 is to put up four missing person signs across eight spots in Weeping Woods and Misty Meadows. Completing this task will net you a cool 30,000 XP for your Battle Pass, and we will show you where to go. If you want to start placing missing person signs, there are a few quests ahead of it, but after that, it is as easy as walking up to the designated locations. Then, you need to interact with the spectral signs that indicate where the real ones go. You can follow where to go in the map below:... Read more...
All the way from Asgard, the God of Mischief Loki Laufeyson is joining the Fortnite crew this July in a mashup of the former Marvel season and the current alien-themed season. Starting on June 30th, Fortnite Crew members will be able to grab some Loki-themed gear to wear around the map and cause mayhem with. For the uninitiated, Fortnite Crew is Epic Game’s subscription service for the popular battle royale shooter Fortnite. If you pick it up for $11.99 monthly, you will get the Battle Pass for the full season, 1,000 V-Bucks monthly, and a new monthly crew pack which consists of exclusive outfit bundles. For example, June’s bundle was Cuddle Team Leader as Mecha Cuddle Master. Whatever... Read more...
Aliens have fully invaded Fortnite this season, and players are battling parasites while also trying to communicate with the invaders. This is a lot to take in, so let us take a look at how to take on a parasite and gain some XP for setting up communications with the creatures from outer space… Parasites, The Good Kind? Typically, parasites are a bad thing, but in the case of Fortnite, it appears to be a symbiotic relationship if our biology classes taught us anything. The leech-like alien parasites in the game attach themselves to any living organism in the area, including chickens, boars, wolves, or other players. If the host organism is killed or you stumble upon a green egg that hatches... Read more...
We have a high opinion of Control, the game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by 505 Games in 2019. When we explored the title, we called Control a visually stunning ray-traced gem of a game, noting that Remedy did a masterful job of creating an engrossing world that looks outstanding. If you still haven't played it, now is your chance to add it to your games catalog without spending a dime. No, we're not talking about visiting a sketchy download site or a five fingered discount at GameStop (good luck finding a boxed copy, anyway). Instead, Control is the latest free game at the Epic Games Store. All you have to do is sign into your Epic account (or create one if you don't have... Read more...
