Samsung, like many high-profile tech companies, is desperate to obtain additional microchips from its suppliers. Unfortunately, the global chip shortage is putting the squeeze on Samsung’s ability to deliver high-end (and incredibly profitable) flagship smartphones to customers. With this in mind, the company is doing everything to bolster its chip supply, including sending mobile chief TM Roh to the United States to implore suppliers to boost output. However, even a company as big as Samsung, which has considerable political and financial might, couldn’t move the production needle, according to South Korean publication The Elec. Roh reportedly made two trips to the U.S. – one... Read more...
Earlier today, we brought you some sweet discounts on Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. This afternoon, deals abound on much older hardware, but they represent excellent values for those currently in the market. Kicking things off is the OnePlus 8T. When we last visited the phone in early June, it was already available at a discounted price of $549 direct from OnePlus. Today, the phone is discounted even further at OnePlus, falling to just $499 with free shipping. OnePlus 8T 12GB/256GB Unlocked $499 @ OnePlus That price gets you a powerful smartphone powered by a Snapdragon 865 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Android 12 has been available in developer preview and public beta form for months, but Samsung is just now getting around to bringing its customers into the fold. Tonight, Samsung announced that users with a Galaxy S21 device (Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra) are eligible to join the One UI 4 beta program, which is, of course, based on Android 12. In addition to all the new functionality along with performance and security updates coming with Android 12, Samsung also touts these One UI 4-specific improvements that beta testers will be able to leverage: A wealth of theme options let you adjust the look and functionality of your device, giving you tools to configure your home screen,... Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event occurred earlier this month with nary a mention of the rumored Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE). However, the smartphone has been talked up for months, and we've seen plenty of renders and even official marketing materials for the smartphone. A new leak from Max Weinbach claims that the Galaxy S21 FE could be right around the corner. Weinbach posted an image of what looks to be a retail store display for Samsung smartphones. You would see this kiosk in the smartphone section of, say, an AT&T/Verizon store or inside a Best Buy. The exhibit features Galaxy S21 5G and S21 FE 5G branding, which is a key clue that a release is imminent. If that wasn't enough, the Samsung... Read more...
This has been a tough year for numerous reasons, and for Samsung, it is reportedly staring at a significant drop in smartphone shipments for its Galaxy S21 series, compared to the previous generation Galaxy S20 lineup. It is said the drop off is so severe that Samsung is now taking a long, hard look at its mobile division that could potentially lead to management changes. In our Samsung Galaxy S21 5G handset review, the lowest cost option within the Galaxy S21 series, we found it to be a capable phone with a lot of features for the money. Samsung's OLED displays on its smartphones continue to impress, and paired with Qualcomm's peppy Snapdragon 888 processor, it is certainly a capable handset... Read more...
It seems like Samsung can't keep anything under wraps these days. The second half of 2021 is expected to be pretty busy for the company, with several major product launches looming. However, nearly all those devices have leaked in the form of official press renders. So far, we've seen: Galaxy Watch 4 Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Galaxy Z Flip 3 Galaxy Z Fold 3 And now we can add the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) to the table as well. The smartphone has been rumored for months, but the folks at Android Headlines claim to have obtained an official marketing render of the smartphone. As we can see, the Galaxy S21 FE will be available in purple, white, green, and grey and looks similar to the existing Galaxy... Read more...
Samsung is widely expected to launch a new, cost-reduced version of its Galaxy S21 smartphone in the coming months. Last year, Samsung released the Galaxy S20 FE, and this year will see the arrival of the Galaxy S21 FE. Luckily for us, the Galaxy S21 FE (internal designation SM-G990U) made an appearance in Geekbench, carrying the same processor as the rest of the Galaxy S21 family: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Global versions of the Galaxy S21 FE are likely to include Samsung's homegrown Exynos 2100 SoC. However, given that the Galaxy S21 FE will hit a lower price point, Samsung had to make some compromises. The Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ are only available with 8GB of RAM, while the Galaxy S21... It's been a few months since Samsung launched its Galaxy S21 family of smartphones, which means that attention is starting to shift towards the next iteration of the Fan Edition. Luckily for us, some new information has come down the news pipeline concerning the Galaxy S21 FE, and it could be a compelling entry into the fiercely competitive smartphone market. Although the Galaxy S21 FE looks quite familiar to those that have already laid their eyes upon the standard Galaxy S21, there are some slight differences according to renders provided by OnLeaks. The Galaxy S21 FE is slightly larger than the Galaxy S21, adding 4mm in length and 3.3mm in width. The Galaxy S21 FE is also said to include a... Read more...
Premium smartphone prices have ballooned over the past several years, and hey, we get it—paying north of a grand for a handset is a tough proposition. Fortunately, periodic sales, discounts, and promotions help take some of the sting out of buying a top-end device. To that end, Samsung's venerable Galaxy S21 family is marked down on Amazon right now. What you see pictured above is the regular Galaxy S21 5G. You can check out our Samsung Galaxy S21 5G review for our full analysis and benchmark details, but in short, it offers excellent performance, a killer OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, stellar photo taking capabilities, and all things considered, a decent value proposition. That's... Read more...
When Samsung first introduced its new Galaxy S21 5G line-up, the company took a similar good, better, best approach to its previous generation launch. Like the Galaxy S20, the new Galaxy S21 lineup consists of a base device, a mid-tier device and a top-end model, though all of them can be considered "flagship" phones among Samsung's large and varied handset product offerings. However, for the Galaxy S21 launch, it was clear that Samsung was more focused on value at all tiers this time around, with pricing starting at $799 and topping out $1199 for the Galaxy S21 Ultra, representing a $200 price cut across the board versus its previous generation Galaxy S20 family. What's even more exciting... Read more...
On Monday, we brought you news of some very enticing deals on Samsung's new Galaxy S21 family. Amazon took $100 off the already attractively priced Galaxy S21, which brought its starting price to just $699. Likewise, both the Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra are available for $200 off, taking them to $799 and $999 respectively. However, Amazon is now extending its discount spree to the Galaxy Buds Pro wireless earbuds, which were announced alongside the Galaxy S21 family. The Galaxy Buds Pro typically retail for $199, but when purchased with the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ or Galaxy S21 Ultra, you'll get them for just $100. First, you'll want to add either of these three devices to your... Read more...
The ink is barely dry on the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S21 family of Snapdragon 888-powered smartphones, but as is often the case when new flagships launch, there are already some sweet discounts available for bargain shoppers. When the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra launched last month, they were priced from $799, $999, and $1,199 respectively. Today's deal, however, sees those prices fall by up to $200 if you opt for the pricier members of the Galaxy S21 family. Starting things off is the Galaxy S21, which is already a good bargain at $799. That price gets you a 6.2-inch FHD+ display (2400x1080), a Snapdragon 888 SoC, 12GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage, and a... Read more...
Samsung has long dreamed of the modern smartphone extending its usefulness to more PC-like use cases, such as functions you might otherwise drive on a desktop or laptop. To that end, the company has poured resources into DeX, a Chrome OS-like interface that works remarkably well with a traditional keyboard and mouse. Last fall, we really dug this feature as part of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus, where DeX added tons of utility to an otherwise-barren Android tablet landscape. DeX isn't just for tablets, though; the Galaxy S phone lineup has long supported it. A new feature of Samsung's new Galaxy S21 series of devices should make running in DeX mode much easier via wireless connectivity. Samsung... Read more...
Samsung's new Galaxy S21 family of smartphones have been leaking like crazy for the past few months, so at this point, most details have already been made available. However, Samsung this morning made its Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra official, and it has also revealed the full specs and features rundown along with some interesting surprises when it comes to pricing. So, let's get started... Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ The first members of the family are the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+, which are of course replacing the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+. The new smartphones largely share the same feature set, with the Galaxy S21+ being the larger of the two devices. The Galaxy S21 has a... Read more...
In just a few more days—January 14, the last day of this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES)—Samsung will host its Unpacked event, starting at 10:00am Eastern (7:00am Pacific). At this point, we have little doubt the company will unveil its much-anticipated Galaxy S21 series of flagship phones (which might actually be cheaper than their predecessors), and there are reason to be both excited and disappointed. Starting with the former, flagship launches from the likes of Apple and Samsung are typically intriguing. Upgraded cameras, faster processors, new features, and usually a few surprises are common when either company launches a new round of top shelf smartphones. The Galaxy... Read more...
Flagship smartphone prices have been creeping higher and higher each year, with devices like the Galaxy S20 and iPhone 12 Pro carrying MSRPs of $999. While many people reason the cost away by paying for the device in relatively low monthly installments, we can't escape that fact that $1,000 is a lot of money to spend for a hunk of metal and glass. Perhaps Samsung has heard these cries, as it is reportedly looking to lower prices on at least two of its incoming Galaxy S21 family of smartphones. This information comes to us from Belgian wireless carrier Voo, which has prematurely listed alleged pricing for the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+ and Galaxy S21 Ultra. Voo lists the smartphones prices at... Read more...
Samsung is set to unveil its new Galaxy S21 family on January 14th, and the company has already started taking reservations for preorders. As is usually the case with its new Galaxy S releases, Samsung will be throwing in some freebies for those early adopters that choose to preorder its latest flagships. According to tipster TheGalox, Samsung will be including a couple of sweet accessories with the preorder purchase of either smartphone. Allegedly, anyone that decides to preorder a Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S21+ will get a set of Galaxy Buds Live wireless earbuds and a Galaxy SmartTag. The Galaxy Buds Live were released earlier this year and have been nicknamed "beans" due to their shape. The... Read more...
It appears the launch of Samsung's Galaxy S family of smartphones gets earlier and earlier each year. This year is no exception, as Samsung this evening confirmed that the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 announcement will take place on January 14th at 10am EST. For those keeping score, the Galaxy 20 family was announced on March 11th, 2020, which means that the Galaxy S21 is being unleashed nearly a month sooner. "Over the past year, mobile technology has taken center stage in everyday life as people are working remotely and spending more time at home," said Samsung upon announcing the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event. "The accelerated transition to a mobile-first world brings with it the need... Read more...
Yesterday, Samsung dropped its first teaser for the upcoming Galaxy S21 family of smartphones, which are rumored to be announced on January 14th. The Snapdragon 888-powered flagships are likely to be among the best-selling Android flagships of 2021, but new reports suggest that customers will be missing a few features with this generation. First off is what's reportedly missing in the box. Earlier this fall when Apple announced its iPhone 12 family, it removed both the headphones and wall charger from the box. That left customers with just a USB-C to Lightning cable. At the time, Samsung mocked Apple's omission and pointed to the fact that it includes a charger in the box with its smartphones.... Samsung won't be the first manufacturer to field a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G Mobile Platform smartphone, but it will likely be the most high-profile. The launch of the Galaxy S21 family is reportedly two weeks away, and Samsung is whetting the appetites of its customers with a teaser for the smartphones. The teaser, entitled "A new Galaxy awaits", starts off by showing the design of the original Galaxy S, which was launched in June 2010. While Samsung had previously released Android smartphones up to that point, the Galaxy S brand is what helped to cement the company as a leader in design and innovation. The video then cycles through the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III and the... Read more...
Hey, have you heard—Samsung is launching a new flagship phone series, the Galaxy S21, in the very near future. Of course you have heard, because there has been a deluge of leaks and rumors related to the upcoming phone lineup, including official looking press renders. As we get closer to the actual launch, Samsung has begun accepting preorder registrations in the U.S. What exactly is a preorder registration? It is a way of being alerted when preorders go live next month, by providing your contact details to Samsung. As an added bonus, anyone who opts to "reserve now," as Samsung words it, will get a $60 instant credit they can apply to accessories and other items for the Galaxy S21. That... Read more...
Samsung is close to releasing its Galaxy S21 series, and with it will come two system-on-chip (SoC) designs, depending on the territory. In certain markets like the US, the Galaxy S21 will arrive with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 processor sitting pretty inside, while in many other locations, Samsung injects its own Exynos hardware inside its flagship phones. In those locations, the Galaxy S21 will wield Samsung's Exynos 2100 SoC, and some leaked benchmarks give us an idea of what kind of performance it will deliver. In most instances, the Snapdragon variant of Samsung's flagship phones end up outperforming the Exynos counterparts. Will that trend continue when the Galaxy S21 arrives? Well, Qualcomm...
