Listen up folks, if you want to score a mammoth payday in the future, start being a pack rat. Remember all those comic books, baseball cards, and collection of original Garbage Pail Kids you had as a kid, and got rid of long ago? Some of them might have been worth a mint. So goes for an individual who managed to hold onto an seal copy of Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and just sold it at auction for a cool $660,000. Original NES games are fetching big money these days, like an also-sealed Super Mario Bros. 3 cartridge that sold at auction for $156,000 last year. Like that game, the first Super Mario Bros. game is not exactly rare by any stretch, or even expensive.... Read more...
Between silicon yields being too low, pandemic-induced production problems, cryptocurrency mining, and high demand, it has become an awful year to be a gamer trying to buy computer components and consoles alike. GPUs have been especially hard hit in the technology sector, with stock remaining limited and scalpers ruling the roost. Now, rumors are cropping up out of China that NVIDIA will try to pump the market with a supply of older GeForce GTX 1650 cards, but is that what people need or want? If you are looking to build a PC at the time of writing, you would perhaps be better off buying from the older used market or just waiting altogether. What are meant to be top-of-the-line cards at reasonable... Read more...
Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 1.2 recently went live, bringing dozens of bug fixes and updates across PC and console platforms  As with Patch 1.1 bringing new game-breaking bugs, Patch 1.2 does the same, and players are taking notice. It seems Cyberpunk 2077 updates have become a horrendous whack-a-mole game where CD Projekt Red fixes some issues, but others pop up elsewhere. While Patch 1.2 may have introduced optimizations, especially for consoles, it certainly has its fair share of new issues possibly stemming from new features. The Cyberpunk 2077 gaming subreddit is the main hub for information (and memes) about the game, and all players can do is post the glitches found with the new... Read more...
The song may say, "Take me out to the ballgame, take me out with the crowd," but that last part is certainly difficult in the middle of a pandemic. Though we may be on the upswing, it is still generally unsafe to be a part of a large crowd, so perhaps there is an alternative that could be just as fun. As it turns out, MLB The Show 21 is coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one, so you can "root, root, root for the home team," all from the comfort of your own home. Becoming available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Xbox Cloud Gaming on April 20th, MLB The Show 21 will bring the MLB experience anywhere a player goes. Moreover, Jamie Leece, MLB Senior VP, explains that with "cross-platform play and... Read more...
Game developer Bungie has set up the popular game Destiny 2 to be in it for the long haul, with new DLC and crossplay compatibility. However, the company has some new properties on the horizon, and we got a snippet of that with Bungie’s trademark of a game called “Matter” in 2018. Since then, we have not heard any other news about what is in store from the developer until now. In an interview with Japanese publication 4Gamer, Bungie Design Director Jacob Benton spoke about what the future holds for Destiny 2 and how the company plans to support the game for many more years. When asked about the possibility of Destiny 3, Benton simply elaborated on the plans for Destiny 2 and... Read more...
While it may have been the most hyped-up game in and before 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 certainly got off to a rather rocky start. Bugs and glitches were rampant, performance was not the greatest (especially on consoles), and many customers were left unhappy. Now, after several patches and upcoming updates, the game is in a fairly solid state. When all is said and done, it seems that CD Projekt Red has learned some lessons for the future. During CDPR’s strategy video shown below, the company went over what went wrong during the development and marketing of Cyberpunk 2077. Adam Kicinski explained that the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 did not meet CDPR's  core values which include quality at the... Read more...
As much as we sometimes want them to, nothing lasts forever. Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad, and The Office? They all came and went. Toys R Us as we used to know it? Pour one out. And your favorite pair of socks with an increasingly bigger hole in the heel? Eventually you'll have to toss them in the garbage. In just a few months, we can add PlayStation Store access for various Sony consoles to the mix well. You will still be access the PlayStation Store to download games and apps onto your PlayStation 5 and/or PlayStation 4 consoles for a long time to come. But for owners of the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation Portable, the PlayStation Store will soon be locking them out forever,... Read more...
You have to feel for the crew of the Ever Given, a massive container ship that somehow became stuck in the Suez Canal, blocking billions of dollars in goods that would otherwise traverse the artificial waterway each day. While bright minds try to figure out the quickest way to dislodge the ship, the internet is having a laugh at the situation through memes, and a humorous Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) mod. Released last August, the latest version of MSFS is leaps and bounds prettier and more advanced than the original version that came out nearly four decades ago. It features gorgeous graphics, ultra-realistic flight mechanics, and accurate mapping powered by Bing Maps and Microsoft's Azure... Read more...
It seems there are simulator games for just about anything you can think of, such as Granny Simulator, Thief Simulator, and even a PC building simulator. Now, teams from Dovetail Games, Curve Digital, and Skyhook Games are bringing what could be the hottest simulator game this summer: Lawn Mowing Simulator. Later this year, players will be able to “enjoy the challenge and serenity of mowing the Great British countryside in a variety of modes, while ensuring cash flow of your empire remains as green as the blades you’re cutting,” according to developer Skyhook Games. New lawn care professionals will be able to visit the British countryside, large equestrian fields, castle grounds... Read more...
Rev your engines and get ready for what Rocket League developer Psyonix calls the most “high-octane season yet.” April 7th is when Season 3 kicks off, but players will get their hands on NASCAR and Formula 1 cars for Rocket League’s tribute to auto racing starting in May. Shown off in the trailer below, players will be able to get a sleek F1 vehicle as well as a NASCAR-styled Mustang if they purchase a bundle from the Rocket League store. According to the Rocket League Blog post, you can “look out for more info leading up to the release of NASCAR in early May and F1 in mid-May.” Keeping with the theme of racing, Rocket League is also redesigning DFH Stadium (Circuit),... Armed with unlimited funds, we would all opt for the fastest hardware available, cost be damned. Money does not actually grow on trees (not directly), however, hence the need for cheaper options. NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 3050 mobile GPU will help fill that need, and if recently leaked specifications are any indication, there will be some interesting budget gaming laptops coming out relatively soon. So far, NVIDIA has released three core GeForce RTX 30 series mobile GPUs for laptops. They include the GeForce RTX 3080 (6,144 CUDA cores), GeForce RTX 3070 (5,120 CUDA cores), and GeForce RTX 3060 (3,840 CUDA cores). Factoring in the different power profiles and configurations available to NVIDIA's... Read more...
Do you own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console? If so, then heads up that Sony has unlocked a whole bunch of games you can add to your library at no cost. Heck, even if you don't own one of the aforementioned game systems, it would be worth adding these games while you can, in case you ever do buy a PlayStation 4/5. All you need is a PlayStation account, which you can create for free. Once you have one, you can head to the PlayStation Store and claim the games Sony is gifting as part of its Play at Home initiative, which is meant to encourage users to stay inside during the pandemic. There are nine games in total, or 10 if you count Ratchet & Clank, which is still free for a few more... Read more...
Late last year, a copy of Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES went up for auction with a starting bid at $62,500. After 20 different bidders got in on the auction, that price rose to a whopping $156,000, which beat out the previous record of $114,000 for an NES game. Now, a sealed copy of Super Mario Bros. is up for auction, and it is currently sitting at $310,000 with seven days left. This auction could beat out the most expensive video game collectible of all time in base value. Though it may be one of the most common video games out there, it is fairly rare to find an NES copy of Super Mario Bros in near-mint condition. Wata Games is a renowned gaming grader who gave this copy of Super Mario... Read more...
With everything going on in the world today, gaming can make for a welcome distraction to de-stress and unwind at the end of the day. Even better is a free game from Epic Games, and this week’s game looks pretty fun. The Creature In The Well is described as an indie action dungeon crawler that can be had for free through April 1st. Released in 2019 by developer Flight School Studio, Creature In The Well takes players through a desert mountain dungeon filled with secrets where they will solve puzzles. As the store page explains, “As the last remaining BOT-C unit, venture deep into a desert mountain to restore power to an ancient facility, haunted by a desperate Creature.” To... Read more...
When it comes to OEM system builders, AMD has been a bit like Rodney Dangerfield, in that it sometimes can't "get no respect," to quote the former comedian (RIP). The company's Zen architecture has been a game changer, though, especially its latest generation Zen 3 CPUs. They are so enticing, there is a rumor Razer will launch its first AMD-based gaming laptop. Up to this point, Razer has exclusively sharpened its Blade laptops with Intel's silicon. Available in 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch variants, each current model sports an Intel Core processor, with Comet Lake, Ice Lake, and Tiger Lake CPU options. But what you won't find among any of Razer's laptop models is an AMD processor. Not yet,... Read more...
I'm always disappointed when I walk into a GameStop store and see what little space is devoted to PC gaming, especially having grown up in the era of Software Etc., one of my favorite places to visit when it was still around. It seems a change is coming, however. GameStop announced it is expanding into PC hardware, and will sell a variety of related products, even GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards. In time, anyway. Like every vendor on the planet, GameStop's listings for the latest generation graphics cards are out of stock. Nevertheless, GameStop's expansion into PC hardware gives customers another portal to find deals, outside of the usual suspects (Amazon, B&H Photo, Best Buy, Newegg,... Read more...
Serious Sam 2 was released over 15 years ago, but this week, it receives a massive update for diehard fans. The developers even acknowledge that it has been “five billion years” since the game last received a “proper update,” and we’d imagine that those that still play the game (or have long relegated it to the digital recycle bin) weren’t expecting an update. Developer Croteam says that the new 2.90 Update brings niceties like dual-wielding weapons, an enemy multiplier, and a dozen new multiplayer maps (among other additions). One of the new weapons is the BeamGun, which is based on the Ghost Buster from the original Serious Sam concept and a flamethrower.... Read more...
While it is probably not the best idea to delve into the mind of a deadly assassin, new DLC for Hitman 3 lets players do precisely that. Hitman 3's Seven Deadly Sins DLC is a new 7-part expansion for the hit game from IO Interactive that takes players "deep into the mind of Agent 47." It will feature "new gameplay opportunities, visually distinct contracts and unique sin-themed rewards" that will all culminate in "subvert[ing] expectations and challeng[ing] players to resist each of the seven sins." Over time, IOI will release the Seven Deadly Sins DLC across seven unique content packs which focus on a different sin. Each DLC pack will "include a visually distinct contract, sin-themed unlockable... Read more...
We've seen some rather intriguing usage cases for Raspberry Pi-powered devices in recent months, but this latest development from Hriday Badot has our attention. Hriday posted his latest contraption to Reddit, which uses a Raspberry Pi Pico used in conjunction with an MPU-6050 module to control Asphalt 8: Airborne. For those not familiar with Asphalt 8, it's an auto racing game that is quite popular on Android and iOS mobile platforms, although it is also Windows compatible. The most popular method for steering input on mobile platforms is tilting your device, which uses the built-in accelerometer. That's where Hriday's setup comes into play. The MPU-6050 module is attached to his wrist... Read more...
There are no two ways about it, the Nintendo Switch is a smashing success—Switch sales soared last year, with more units sold to date than the 3DS. Can the success of the Switch be replicated on other platforms? Hardware makers aim to find out. That includes Qualcomm, which is developing a handheld console that is similar in appearance to the Switch. It won't run Nintendo Switch games, though, at least not natively. Not the least bit surprising, Qualcomm is building its custom console around Android, and apparently even has ambitions of offering its own app storefront. In other words, Qualcomm is really going for it, on both the hardware and software side of the equation. The folks at Android... Read more...
Perhaps Epic Games made a slight mistake, or the release date has changed, but the Fortnite Season 6 Week 2 challenges are live two days earlier than normal. Players can get out and complete these challenges to gain a healthy 24,000 XP for their accounts. Of the new challenges, perhaps the easiest is collecting literature samples from Pleasant Park, Lazy Lake, or Retail Row. Players only need to collect four of the five scattered between the three locations to complete the challenge. Below, you will find a map with stars that mark the rough place you can find book or magazine shelves to interact with to collect the literature. It is quite possible that these challenges are not meant to be... Read more...
Fair or not, Mac users are sometime a forgotten bunch when it comes to playing computer games, perhaps even more so now that Apple has embarked on a slow breakup with Intel. It wasn't always that way. Remember being afflicted with dysentery in Oregon Trail? Like Pepperidge Farm, Valve remembers, and it has made its Steam Link application available in the Mac App Store. "The Steam Link app allows you to play your Steam games across all your computers. Just pair an MFI or Steam controller to your Mac, connect to a computer running Steam on the same local network, and start playing your existing Steam games," the app's description states. This is one of the final destinations for Steam Link. While... Read more...
