When Motorola first announced its Razr revamp earlier this month, it said that the smartphone would be priced at $1,399, which is quite a hefty sum to pay for a device that at best had mid-range specs. Well, Motorola is today confirming that the Razer 5G will go on sale October 2nd priced at only $1,199. While still a tad on the pricey side, we’re not going to scoff at a $200 price break.  Unfortunately, this is only a temporary price cut, and at some point, Motorola will raise the price back up to its normal $1,399 level. But once October 2nd rolls around, you’ll be able to get the discounted pricing from Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H (among other... Read more...
Moto is on a tear with new releases lately. So far in 2020, the company has launched 21 handsets globally, and nine in the US alone -- namely the G Stylus, G Power, Edge+, Edge, G Fast, E (2020), One Fusion+, One 5G, and Razr 5G. And that’s without counting phones rebranded for T-Mobile, including the $400 REVVL 5G -- a detuned version of the subject of today’s review, the $445 Moto One 5G. This let’s-see-what-sticks strategy is confusing, to say the least. While the Razr 5G, Edge+ and Edge fit into well defined categories, these other handsets (especially the sub-$270 E- and G-series) overlap in terms of specs and pricing, and often lack must-have features like NFC. Combine... Read more...
Motorola has been on roll when it comes to its latest budget smartphones. Just within the past week, the company announced the One 5G with a 90Hz display, 5,000 mAh battery, and 5G connectivity for under $500. Now, the company's latest budget device, the Moto G9 Plus, has seen its specs leaked to the internet for all to see courtesy of wireless carrier Orange Slovakia. Orange indicates the Moto G9 Plus is equipped with a 6.81-inch FHD+ display (2400x1080) along with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. If 128GB isn't enough for you, you'll be happy to know that Motorola has included a microSD slot for further expansion. Although not confirmed in this most recent specs dump, the... Read more...
All eyes have been on the OnePlus Nord over the past few weeks or so for its value play in the mid-range 5G smartphone phone market. However, Motorola is looking to do battle with the Nord on the global stage; oh, and you can actually purchase this smartphone in the United States (take note, OnePlus). The One 5G delivers some absolutely killer specs (for the price), as it boasts a large 6.7-inch Full HD+ display that is backed with HDR10+ certification. Best of all, it features a fast refresh rate of 90Hz. The One 5G gives up a tiny bit in speed to the Nord, as it features the standard Snapdragon 765 instead of the speedier Snapdragon 765G. Other specs rounding out the One 5G include... Read more...
We’re a little over two weeks away from the launch of the Motorola Razr 5G, and we’re beginning to see a greater influx of images and speculation on the device. On the images front, today we’re getting our best look as the Razr 5G yet courtesy of notorious gadget leaker Evan Blass. Blass has obtained images of the Razr 5G, which show the device with the display closed, halfway open, and fully opened. With just this one image, we can tell quite a bit about the smartphone. For starters, it appears that the hump around the main camera is now larger and that the display notch is a little bit shallower.  More importantly, however, is that the prominent chin at the bottom... Motorola first announced its new Razr late last year, and officially launched the smartphone in early 2020. Unfortunately for Motorola, Samsung showed up not long after with its Galaxy Z Flip sporting a similar form-factor, faster SoC, better features, and a lower price point. Motorola eventually was relegated to selling the Razr with BOGO promotions to push sales. Now, however, it looks as though Motorola is close to delivering a successor to the Razr. According to invites sent out to the press by the company, it has an event set for September 9th. The Razr 2 definitely seems like the topic of discussion as the invite was accompanied by the following phrase: "Flip the smartphone experience... Read more...
The ink is barely dry on Google’s announcement of its new mid-range Pixel 4a smartphone, which is priced at $399, and now Motorola has revealed that its [previously] international market-only One Fusion+ is coming to the United States. Not surprisingly, primary specifications for the One Fusion+ and the Pixel 4a are closely aligned. Both smartphones feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 SoC (Snapdragon 730G on the Pixel 4a), 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Things take a turn when it comes to the display, as the One Fusion+ features a larger 6.5-inch FHD+ panel that is unbroken by notches or a hole punch cutout. Instead, it features a pop-up selfie camera, which is uncommon... Read more...
Earlier this year, Motorola launched its first flagship in years: the Moto Edge+. The smartphone came packing worthy specs like a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, 5G support, and a 90Hz display. The primary hang-up with that smartphone, however, was its $999 price tag. Motorola countered with the standard Moto Edge, which ditches the Snapdragon 865 in favor of the cheaper and slightly slower Snapdragon 765 (while retaining 5G support thanks to the Snapdragon X52 modem). The downgraded specs meant a price cut of $300, taking the Moto Edge to $699. Today, Motorola announced that the Moto Edge will be available even cheaper for a "limited time" for early birds. The smartphone is available... Read more...
Motorola makes smartphones that run the gamut from cheap entry-level devices, into the mid-range, all the way up into the high-end market with the newly launched Edge+. Now, renders of the company's latest budget smartphone have leaked: the Moto G 5G. As it name implies, the smartphone will pack 5G connectivity, likely from a Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC. The leaked renders come from Evan Blass, a leaker with an impeccably accurate history when it comes to unreleased smartphones. The renders show the front and back as well as one side of the smartphone, and it looks very good. Notable on the front of the smartphone is that it has a dual hole punch array that is presumably for the selfie camera and... Read more...
Earlier this year, Motorola launched its Edge+ 5G smartphone, which was its first true flagship device in years. Powered by Qualcomm's newest Snapdragon 865 SoC, the smartphone also came with a hefty price tag to match ($999) and is available as a Verizon Wireless exclusive. This summer, however, Motorola is launching the regular Edge (sans the +) to hit a lower price point. When Motorola first announced this device, it said the it would ship with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, when it lands this summer, it will actually come with a more generous 6GB of RAM while doubling internal storage to 256GB.  Running the show will be Qualcomm's mid-range Snapdragon 765 SoC which comes... Motorola is aiming to give Apple's iPhone SE some competition in the affordable smartphone space. The handset maker unveiled two phones today, the Moto E (pictured above) starting at just $149, and the Moto G Fast starting at $199.99. Both will begin shipping next week and will give budget buyers some more options to choose from, well outside of the range of flagship $1,000+ phones that permeate the market. The Moto E is an unlocked handset sporting a 6.2-inch Max Vision display with a 1520x720 resolution, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor and 2GB of RAM. It offers just 32GB of built-in storage, though Moto E owners have the option of adding up to 512GB more storage by way of a microSD... Read more...
Motorola had hoped to take the smartphone market by storm with a nostalgic nameplate and a sleek design with its reimagined Razr, but the device instead landed with a thud. Early complaints revolved around its high price tag ($1,499), hinge durability concerns, and its lackluster Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 SoC (given the price tag). However, Motorola is looking to right those wrongs with the release of a Razr 2 later this year – September to be exact. That’s a rather quick turnaround for a refresh given that the first-generation device just launched in early February. According to new reporting, the Razr 2 is being developed under the model name XT2071-4, and will come with... Read more...
An interesting new smartphone that appears to be aiming at the mid-range market has leaked. The device is the Motorola One Fusion+, and the leak gives up several details, including a 6.5-inch Full HD display. The Fusion+ has leaked in the past and is expected to run Android 10 and have a massive battery. The battery is tipped at 5000 mAh in capacity, and the leak claims a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor runs the show. That processor suggests it's a mid-range device that should be affordable for most. A launch date sometime in June was listed along with hardware details. The render included with the leaked specifications on YouTube appears to be one of the official press renders of a different... Read more...
The Motorola Razr smartphone has been on the market for a few months, and has now received its most signifiant software update. The Razr Android 10 update began rolling out yesterday, and Motorola is highlighting some of the new features and functionality that the operating system update is bringing to the Quick View display on the outside of the smartphone. Motorola promises a streamlined new look and feel with significantly improved and expanded functionality for the external display. With Android 10 installed, Razr owners can call people without having to open the device by swiping left on the front display to access their favorite contacts. That feature is only available in the United States... Read more...
Here’s a question for you: what’s Motorola’s most recent flagship phone? Take your time, we’ll wait... Perhaps the lovely Moto X from 2013 comes to mind, or the Moto X 2nd gen, or even the Moto X Pure/Style? Or maybe you’ll recall the Moto Z and Moto Mods? We’re here to tell you that, technically, Moto’s most recent flagship was the Z2 Force back in 2017. Yes, there was a Moto Z3, but it came with a Snapdragon 835 back when the 845 was still king. And while Moto eventually made an X4 and Z4, these were mid-range phones. So, needless to say, Moto’s recent Edge and Edge+ launch was a big deal. Our focus today is the Moto Edge+, a $1000 flagship exclusive... Read more...
Motorola has officially announced its new Edge+ smartphone, and it has nearly everything you’d expect from a 2020 flagship. After a few years of ignoring the flagship market with devices like the Moto Z3 and Moto Z4, the Edge+ is a true return to high-end form for Motorola. For starters, the obvious talking point of the Edge+ is its new Waterfall Display, which measures 6.67 inches across and includes a hole punch cutout for the 25MP selfie camera. The display features dramatic wraparound curves on its left and right edges. Samsung popularized this type of display curvature with its Galaxy “Edge” smartphones, but has toned down the effect with its most recent Galaxy S20... Read more...
Not everyone has the need or desire to throw down four figures on a smartphone. Even Apple recognizes this, and it's recently announced iPhone SE (basically an iPhone 9) for 2020 starts at $399, a tantalizing price point for a smartphone that wields a fast and powerful A13 Bionic SoC, 7-megapixel selfie camera, and a 12-megapixel rear camera. While it's a decent overall value, it also means buying into Apple's ecosystem. What if you prefer Android? Well, there are lower cost alternatives that are worth checking out. Before we get to those, let's have a quick rundown of the iPhone SE specifications, so we know what exactly we are comparing against... Display: 4.7-inch Retina HD (1334x750, LCD)... Read more...
After a series of leaks, Motorola has confirmed the reveal date for its upcoming flagship smartphone: the Edge Plus. Given the uncertainty and chaos that is going on in the world right now due to COVID-19, this will be an online "virtual" event instead of the typical presser filled with hundreds of journalists that you'd normally expect. According to Motorola's tweet, the event will take place on April 22nd at 12PM EST, and a live link to the presentation will be posted closer to that date.  This is a big reveal for Motorola, as the company for the past few years has abandoned the "true" flagship market to focus on entry-level and mid-range smartphones. For example, the company's... Read more...
In an age where flagship Samsung Galaxy smartphones start at $999, and can creep up to $1,399 in Galaxy S20 Ultraform, it's nice to know that some Android OEMs are still focusing on the opposite end of the pricing spectrum. In this case, we're talking about Motorola, which has just debuted its new Moto G8 Power Lite. The Moto G8 Power Lite won't win any speed contests, as it uses a budget-friendly 2.3GHz MediaTek Helio P35 SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. However, not everyone wants to hit insane frame rates in Fortnite or Call of Duty: Mobile, and will be well served with the performance that octa-core Helio P35 offers. There's also 64GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded to 256GB if... Read more...
It's been a while since Motorola has released a "true" flagship device with the specs, cameras, and build quality to match top rivals from Samsung and Apple. But the company is looking to answer the call from enthusiasts with the Edge Plus. Thankfully, reliable gadget leaker Evan Blass has given us the best look yet at the Edge Plus thanks to a new set of official, high-resolution renders. We get to see the device from all angles, including a close-up of its "waterfall display" which seems to wrap about half-way down the sides of the device. Also visible are minimal bezels at the top and bottom of the display, along with a single punch hole cut-out for the selfie camera in the top left-hand... Read more...
Motorola has been working hard on introducing appealing handsets for the mid-range and high-end markets. The company has another device coming that looks like a mid-range offering called the Motorola Edge+, which has turned up in leaked renders -- and it looks pretty good to our eyes. The design reminds more than a bit of the Samsung S10 series of devices to us. Motorola is using a very small hole punch camera in the top left corner of the screen for the front selfie cam. The edges of the screen are curved. Despite the curved waterfall edge, the Motorola Edge+ still has physical buttons on the side for volume and power. The renders show clearly that the smartphone has three camera sensors on... Read more...
Motorola has rolled out a new smartphone called the Moto G8 that it is focusing on people who want a value-packed smartphone that offers high-quality photography. Motorola says that the G8 can capture a "perfect shot" no matter where you are or when you're taking photos thanks to an AI camera system. A 16-megapixel fast-focusing main camera can take sharp photos in lowlight conditions, according to Motorola. The phone is also fitted with an ultra-wide-angle lens that supports panoramic photos. The smartphone also has a dedicated Macro Vision camera that's able to zoom in on a subject five times closer than a normal lens. The G8 also comes with a large 4000 mAh internal battery that promises all-day... Read more...
