Are you looking for a gift idea (for someone else or perhaps to treat yourself)? If so, there are plenty of bargains out there. One that catches our eye today is the Nintendo Switch. Over on Amazon, you can snag one for $269.99, which is $30 below its list price. This is the latest version of the console, too. [EDIT: the Gray version is sold out and not available at the moment -- go here to get the Neon Blue/Red model for $269.00 after coupon, though note it will be in stock on January 19, 2020). If you are lucky, you might even be able to grab one for $239.99, though don't bank on that. Here's the thing—when you are signed into your Amazon account, there is a clickable coupon box that... Nintendo is fairly good at keeping secrets, so much as that is possible in the internet era, so it is not surprising that we have heard very little about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 since it was announced at E3 this past June. There just have not been many substantial leaks. In the absence of such things, however, Nintendo has shared some new new images of the upcoming game. What Nintendo in Japan has shared really amounts to a behind-the-scenes look at some of what goes into developing these worlds and landscapes. Or as the Google-translated text refers to them, they are "stage production" images. "Stage production is the creation of background graphics such as the terrain, sea,... Read more...
This past Cyber Monday was Amazon's single biggest sales day ever, and it must have done well on Black Friday as well—perhaps a little too well, to the point of not being able to keep orders straight. Somehow or another, Amazon managed to replace a bunch of Nintendo Switch orders with seemingly random items, such as books, batteries, and even a pack of condoms. That's right, at least one person who ordered a Nintendo Switch from Amazon on Black Friday received a package of prophylactics instead. Granted, in the right hands a condom can be more fun than a Switch, but there is a definite price gap between the two. How exactly could this happen? Amazon is stumped at the moment, though it did... Nintendo is finally hopping into the largest gaming market in the world with its latest consoles. The gaming company has announced that it will be launching the Nintendo Switch in China on December 10. The launch will come in cooperation with Tencent, and the console will be called the Tencent Nintendo Switch. Nintendo plans to sell the console for RMB 2,099, which is about $300 Stateside. The price will get gamers in China a trial/demo version of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and a one year warranty, and games for the console will reportedly cost about RMB 299 or $42. Another nice aspect of the launch for gamers there is that Nintendo and Tencent are working with Chinese indie devs to launch... Read more...

Google's ambitious cloud gaming platform called Stadia is only a few days away from launching to the public, and there are still many questions that have yet to be answered. That said, Google did answer some of them during an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Reddit yesterday. One of them was in regards to which controllers will work with Stadia. Following the AMA session, Google updated its support pages to list exactly which controllers will (and will not) work with Stadia. Sony's DualShock 4 is one of them, as is Microsoft's Xbox One controller, both of which support USB and Bluetooth connectivity with Stadia on the desktop and through Pixel devices. Here's a look at the official list... Source:... Read more...
Nintendo wants to sell a bunch of the Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite game consoles. However, it won't resort to cutting the price of the hardware to spark momentum. And the fact that Nintendo wants to continue selling the consoles for years to come is good news for fans. At a recent Q&A session, president Shuntaro Furukawa was asked about the pricing strategy and how the profitability of the hardware might increase. He was specific that Nintendo wants to sell the consoles at its current price for as long as possible. There are no plans to reduce the cost at this time, according to the exec. He also noted that profitability could fluctuate depending on the quantities produced in the future.... Read more...

Nintendo just reported its earnings for Q3 2019, and the company had some good news on the hardware sales front. If you recall, Nintendo introduced the cheaper and lighter Switch Lite during the quarter, which has resulted in a massive uptick in sales. According to the Japanese gaming giant it sold 4.8 million Switch consoles during the quarter, which represented a whopping 50 percent increase year-over-year. We can attribute that sales momentum due to the introduction of the Switch Lite, which is priced at $199 compared to $299 for the standard Switch. Nintendo sold 1.85 million Switch Lite consoles and 2.85 million Switch consoles during the quarter. As of September 30th, Nintendo... Read more...

Call it one small step for PlayStation 4 owners and one giant leap for gamers, as Sony has opened the door for cross platform gameplay. Or shall we say, opened it a bit wider—Sony actually relented to Epic Games around this same time a year ago by allowing an open beta enabling cross-play in Fortnite between the PS4 and Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. At first, Sony was resistant to the idea, citing the PS4's supposed superiority over other platforms as the reason why. Sony also admitted at the time that it was not a technical barrier preventing it from embracing open play, just that the "PlayStation [4] is the best place to play." Sony would later backpedal by saying "enabling... Read more...
The Nintendo Switch Lite was just released this past Friday, and it's already a pretty nice bargain compared to the original Switch. The original Nintendo Switch is priced at $299, while its "Lite" counterpart comes in at only $199. However, a new deal today over at Rakuten (via seller GamerCandy) has the console for $199 -- its regular price -- but you can add the coupon code "SAVE15" at checkout to take 15 percent off the price. That brings your total down to $169 with free shipping and no tax (depending on what state you live in). The new Nintendo Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch display compared to 6.2 inches on its bigger brother and it weighs in at just 0.61 pounds. It's smaller in... Read more...
Another ROM site is facing legal action from Nintendo, which is suing over "brazen and mass scale infringement" of its intellectual property (IP) rights. Filed by Nintendo of America, the lawsuit alleges the ROM site served up hundreds of thousands of illegal copies of Switch games, and half a billion 3DS games. "Defendants reproduce, distribute, monetize, and offer for download thousands of unauthorized copeis of Nintendo's video games. This includes games for nearly every video game system Nintendo has ever produced including hundreds of games for its recently released Nintendo Switch," the lawsuit states. The site is ROMUniverse, and according to the lawsuit, it offers a premium membership... Read more...
You all had better watch out, because Blizzard is bringing its top team shooter over to the Nintendo Switch. Nintendo's September 4th Direct broadcast opened with the news, in fact. After previous leaks and whispers of a potential Overwatch Switch port -- especially after an Overwatch-themed Switch case briefly appeared online -- a port seemed inevitable, if slightly late. Now that Overwatch Switch is just around the corner, what kind of performance can we expect? The same day of the Direct reveal, Blizzard employee Nazih Fares took to Twitter to provide the performance information. Overwatch on Nintendo Switch targets a stable 30 FPS in both docked and portable modes, and plays... Read more...
Nintendo has already brought somewhat of a VR experience to its Switch console with the Labo VR kit (as shown above), but if you are hoping for a somewhat better implementation, you might be in luck. Well, maybe. A recently published patent design by Nintendo shows a design for a VR accessory that appears to slightly different than the Labo VR kit. It's also somewhat similar. Nintendo applied for the patent in February 2018, and it was published on August 22, 2019. The patent application describes a "3D image display system and 3D image display device," and there are accompanying design images. Here's a look at some... The images above depict a design whereby the user does not strap the VR accessory... Read more...
Nintendo has filed a patent that turned up in a patent database in Japan, for new Joy-Con controllers that might make it much more comfortable to game on the go or at home. The new controllers are hinged, and the front section can fold down to make the typically flat controllers more ergonomic and comfortable to grip and control. The patent art shows controllers where the left side folds below the thumbstick in the top section, and the right side folds just below the buttons. The patent indicates that the controller could be folded that way when attached to the Switch console or when removed. It appears that about three-fourths of the folding section moves while the other fourth of the section... Read more...
Nintendo Switch fans who have been waiting to play some of the old-school Super NES games on the Switch have to wait no more. Nintendo has made the first 20 SNES games live on the Switch console. As exciting as the first 20 games are, the launch of those titles also brings a bit of bad news. Nintendo has confirmed that while more SNES games will be coming to the Switch in the future, the new launches won't be on a regular schedule. No schedule is a change compared to how Nintendo operated when it added the NES games to the Switch with a few coming every month. Making things even worse for fans is that the NES monthly schedule is now out the door as well. Currently, there are about 50 NES games... Read more...
There has been a rumor that Overwatch would be heading to the Switch, and during the recent Nintendo Direct broadcast, it was confirmed to be true. Overwatch Legendary Edition is in fact bound for the Switch, arriving on the hybrid game console on October 15 in North America. Eager fans can preorder the game now. "Become the vibrant, powerful heroes of Overwatch! Line up the perfect shot using Nintendo Switch’s built-in gyroscopic motion controls, or engage the opposing team with the analog control sticks," Nintendo says. Switch players will be able to hop in and have access to 31 heroes on 28 maps. But it is the motion controls that could potentially set the Overwatch experience on the... Read more...
Sometimes games that are classics in other countries aren't titles we ever get to play here in America. One of the games that launched over two decades ago was promised for the States and never came here is an RPG from a company called Onion Games, and it is called moon. This time around, the game is being ported to the popular Nintendo Switch platform. The game is hailed as a sort of anti-RPG looking at themes in many RPG games like stealing supplies from strangers and killing animals for XP. The original launch for the game was 22 years ago on the original PlayStation. Over the years since that launch, English translations of the game have started and stopped for various reasons.... There is reason to believe Blizzard Entertainment may be prepping a port of Overwatch over to the Nintendo Switch, and soon. Otherwise, the recent discovery of a short-lived listing on Amazon for an Overwatched-themed case for the Switch makes little sense, especially if, as the listing claimed, it's a licensed product. Nothing has been confirmed, but according to the listing (which has since been yanked offline), the case sports the following features... Sturdy outer shell with rubberized handle and durable dual zipper pulls Molded interior fits Console in handheld mode, and features felt lining plus zippered mesh storage Built-in padded screen-protector flap includes storage for nine game cards... Microsoft has recently been playing nice with other game consoles to some extent. The software giant had announced that it would publish the game Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch. That game was initially an exclusive on the Xbox One and the PC, but Microsoft has stated that it has "no plans" to release more exclusive titles on PS4 or Switch. As for why Microsoft first allowed exclusive games to head to other consoles and then said it would stop, it has to do with its purchasing of developers to add to the Xbox Creative team. Microsoft points out that as the new devs were purchased and brought in house, it knew that there were some existing commitments to other platforms... Read more...
