The Chinese New Year falls on Monday, January 23, 2012, and to get a head start, Spire today introduced its new BlackDragon line of power supplies. The new PSUs comply with the ATX Version 2.3 specification and boast an advanced circuit design with "Japanese grade A components," Spire says. Spire's a bit vague on the specifics, but digging through the company's website, it looks like the BlackDragon is offered in 400W ($80), 500W ($96), and 600W ($140) models. These are all wired units (non-modular) housed in black powder coated enclosures with an embossed logo. The top-end model (600W) sports two +12V rails with 22A on +12V1 and 30A on +12V2. OCZ unveiled the Silencer Mk III Power Supply Series from PC Power & Cooling. This series is the first modular PC Power PSU. This series combines a highly efficient core with Japanese 105°C capacitors, a 120mm variable RPM fan, and the flexibility of modular cabling. By the end of the month, those searching for a budget-friendly PSU have six new options from Sharkoon. The company announced new models in the WPM series and QP series. The modular WPM models (with an efficiency of over 80%) are available in 400, 500, and 600W models and include fabric- or mesh-covered cables including 20+4-pin mainboard, 4+4-pin CPU, 6+2-pin PCI-E, 6-pin PCI, and six SATA connectors. Corsair announced the Enthusiast Series Modular line of power supplies. As the name suggests, the Enthusiast Series Modular PSUs feature a modular cabling system with an attached, fully-sleeved ATX 12V cable and a set of flat detachable cables. The Enthusiast Series Modular PSUs deliver at least 85% efficiency at 50% load. These PSUs are rated for full continuous power delivery at 50° C. Just in case there was any doubt, Corsair today announced a couple of additions to its Professional Series and Professional Series Gold power supply lines. First up is the Professional Series HX1050. OCZ Technology may not be famous for their power supplies, but that hasn't kept the company from keeping things flowing in that department. The ZX Series of gold-rated power supplies has just been released, with a fully modular design, an ultra-quiet fan design and a variety of power options. Customers can pick one up in 850W, 1000W and 1250W variants, and each model is backed by a 5-year warranty. Oddly, OCZ hasn't provided pricing for each, but hopefully that will be unveiled soon. Antec launched the High Current Gamer series of PSUs with five models. This series offers users the high current capability favored by high-power users, as well as over current protected +12V rails with High Current functionality.  The High Current Gamer PSUs also include a 135 mm double-ball bearing fan. The race for higher wattage power supplies has finally reached a tipping point where it's no longer feasible to keep cranking out higher rated units.
