The HotChips 33 symposium is currently underway, and some of the hottest names in tech are giving us insight into their product roadmaps. One such company is Samsung, one of the most prolific manufacturers of high-speed memory and NAND storage products for the PC industry. The company revealed its intentions to release its bodacious 512GB DDR5 module that operates at an incredible 7.2 Gbps later this year. Samsung is touting this development as a huge step forward compared to existing high-end DDR4 memory solutions. As you can tell by the maximum capacity of 512GB, these modules target the data center market. Samsung claims that they outperform DDR4 across the board in areas like performance,... Read more...
If you ever pay full price for a smartphone, then you are doing it wrong. Okay, that is not really the case. However, there are often deals to be had, which can be especially helpful at taking some of the sting away from splurging on a premium handset. As it applies to Samsung's brand-spanking-new Galaxy Flip 3 phone, you can save $400 off the MSRP through Google Fi, and get $150 in store credit at Samsung. Making the offer even more enticing, it applies to both new and existing customers. So, how does it work? If you are a new Google Fi customer (either brand new, or whose last day of Google Fi service has been more than 180 days), you need to active the Galaxy Z Flip 3 on a new full service... It's the last day of the workweek, and we've gathered a few deals for you on some hot tech products, including the just-announced Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Finally, we round things out with a PC-centric deal on the AMD Ryzen 7 3800X. Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 And Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic earlier this week, which are powered by the brand new 5nm Exynos W920 SoC. Although all of Samsung's announcements for its latest Galaxy Unpacked event were leaked weeks ago, the company officially revealed the new products today. And some new buds were introduced as well -- the Galaxy Buds 2 with active noise canceling. It's no secret that Samsung plans to launch its new Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphone later today. The devices have been making the rounds in leaked form for months and are highly anticipated by smartphone enthusiasts. However, OnePlus is apparently looking to make some waves of its own with a folding smartphone, as witnessed by emails and posts that went out yesterday. In a video teaser posted to Instagram, we see OnePlus' take on folding smartphones, which appears to take a page from LG's playbook. However, it seems as though OnePlus is using a OnePlus 9 Pro (or perhaps a garden variety OnePlus 9) with an accessory case that adds a second display. So, in essence, we're looking... Read more...
Samsung is putting the pedal to the metal with the hardware powering its next-generation Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. Today, the company announced the Exynos W920, which is a brand new SOC and the very first for the smartwatch market that uses the 5nm process node. This is big news for smartwatch users, as Qualcomm has been stagnant on the performance and efficiency front with its Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC and seems reticent to improve the situation (although the company iterates at an incredible pace with its smartphone SoCs). While the Exynos W920 uses the latest and greatest 5nm technology, the Snapdragon Wear 3100 is based on the now ancient 28nm process node. The Exynos W920... Read more...
This has been a tough year for numerous reasons, and for Samsung, it is reportedly staring at a significant drop in smartphone shipments for its Galaxy S21 series, compared to the previous generation Galaxy S20 lineup. It is said the drop off is so severe that Samsung is now taking a long, hard look at its mobile division that could potentially lead to management changes. In our Samsung Galaxy S21 5G handset review, the lowest cost option within the Galaxy S21 series, we found it to be a capable phone with a lot of features for the money. Samsung's OLED displays on its smartphones continue to impress, and paired with Qualcomm's peppy Snapdragon 888 processor, it is certainly a capable handset... Read more...
While there have been leaks about Samsung’s new devices like the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Z Fold 3, the company has been cooking up other stuff in the background. Now, the Fan Edition lineup is growing with today’s announcement of the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, a massive 12.4” tablet for both work and play. The Galaxy Tab S7 FE looks to be a rather nice Android 11 device, powered by either a Qualcomm SM7325 (Wi-Fi version) or Snapdragon 750G (5G version). The tablet features 4GB of RAM, up to 64GB internal storage with microSD expansion capability up to 1TB, and a 10,090mAh fast-charging battery for all-day use. In just a little over a week from now, Samsung will unveil a handful of new devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Flip 3, and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. There may not be a whole lot in the way of surprises, though. That is because the leaks and rumors scene surrounding the upcoming launches has been especially active, with the latest chatter centered on pricing. Of course, we will have to wait for Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event for official confirmation on pricing. That will take place on August 11, 2021. Ahead of the event, however, notorious leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks on Twitter) has posted what pricing will look like in Europe. As expected, the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Flip... Leading up to this highly-anticipated leak, notorious gadget leaker Evan Blass revealed 360-degree views of all the expected devices, and today, he's giving some additional specs/features for the two most prominent devices that will launch. This will be one of Samsung's biggest launch events in recent memory, with multiple smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds on the agenda. However, the biggest launch will be the Galaxy Z Fold 3, which we've seen leak on numerous occasions at this point. Speaking of the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Samsung has already opened up its Reserve Now program for its "next flagship." With Reserve Now, early preorder customers can take advantage... Read more...
This quarter, smartphone shipments have been up as we hope to enter the downhill slide of the pandemic. At the head of the pack was Samsung with 19% of shipped smartphones, but sneaking up behind is Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi with a 17% share, knocking Apple down to third place with a 14% share. Xiaomi's impressive overtake in the mobile device market is due in part to a preliminary estimate of the company's annual growth rate at 83%. This is quite impressive when compared to Apple's measly 1% growth and Samsung's 15%. Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton explained that "Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly," as "its shipments increased more than 300% in Latin America, 150% Africa... Read more...
Given how much a top-tier smartphone can cost, it can be pretty stressful if a problem crops up, especially one that affects the display. To that unfortunate end, some Galaxy S20 owners have complained about an odd white and green screen issue. Those affected claim the issue starts off mild then becomes worse over time, to the point where the phone is essentially unusable. We have never encountered the problem ourselves, and in fact we regard the AMOLED screens Samsung uses on its high-end devices as some of the best around, in terms of overall image quality. They simply look fantastic when working properly. So how prominent is the issue? It does not seem to be particularly widespread in the... Read more...

We all know that Samsung is planning an Unpacked event for this summer to announce its latest crop of consumer electronics devices. Over the past few weeks, we've seen some substantial leaks of the Galaxy Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3. However, over the weekend, famed leaker Evan Blass struck the motherlode and released animated gifs of every product Samsung plans to launch. These GIFs show the devices from every possible angle in multiple colors. Galaxy Z Fold 3 The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is perhaps the most stunning device that will launch with its large folding display and tall/skinny cover display. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, this new iteration has three cameras on the back along... Read more...
The Galaxy Buds+ have been on the market for almost a year and a half now, and it looks like they are about to get a successor. Namely, it appears Samsung is nearing the launch of its Galaxy Buds 2, based on a set of leaked press renders in the form of a few animated GIFs. The renders highlight a sleek new design and at least three color options that will be available to consumers. As shown above, those color options include white, purple, and green. Assuming these are accurate press renders—and at this point, we have no reason to doubt Evan Blass, who posted the animated GIFs on Twitter—this is our best look yet at the upcoming wireless earbuds. They're renders and not actual product... Read more...
It seems like Samsung can't keep anything under wraps these days. The second half of 2021 is expected to be pretty busy for the company, with several major product launches looming. However, nearly all those devices have leaked in the form of official press renders. So far, we've seen: Galaxy Watch 4 Galaxy Watch 4 Classic Galaxy Z Flip 3 Galaxy Z Fold 3 And now we can add the Galaxy S21 Fan Edition (FE) to the table as well. The smartphone has been rumored for months, but the folks at Android Headlines claim to have obtained an official marketing render of the smartphone. As we can see, the Galaxy S21 FE will be available in purple, white, green, and grey and looks similar to the existing Galaxy... Read more...
A week ago, official renders of Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 leaked onto the internet from a familiar source (Evan Blass). Unfortunately, while we could see the former from the front and the back, the latter was only visible from the back while in the closed position. Well, today, Blass is back at it again with 360-degree views of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in three different colors: Gold, Purple, and Grey. The same basic design present with the first two generations of the "Flip" is still here with the Galaxy Z Flip 3. That means that this is a rather tall smartphone that folds in half, making it a much more portable device to fit in your pocket. There appears to be a selfie... Read more...
Last week, we got a chance to examine Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 smartwatch, which has clean lines and minimal bezels available in 40mm and 44mm cases sizes. But that's not the only smartwatch coming from Samsung; the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic leaked today in official press renders. The Galaxy Watch 4 Classic bears more than a passing resemblance to the outgoing Galaxy Watch 3. There are more prominent display bezels and flatter surfacing than the Galaxy Watch 4, and on the right-hand side of the casing, there are two familiar buttons for navigation. Samsung's Galaxy smartwatches usually come in two sizes, but the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will reportedly feature three sizes: 42mm, 44mm, and... Read more...
It has been a long wait to see the fruit of Samsung's licensing agreement with AMD, in which the former will inject the latter's graphics into system-on-chip designs for supercharged mobile devices. That day has still not arrived, but it is coming. There is reason to be excited, too—leaked benchmark results suggest that the infusion of RDNA 2 into Samsung's Exynos chips will deliver class-leading graphics performance among mobile phones. The initial announcement of the partnership between Samsung and AMD dates back to June 2019. At the time, Samsung hyped bringing to market "groundbreaking graphics products and solutions." And for AMD, it meant yet another avenue for its high performance... Read more...
